Sup guys!
I am finally upgrading. Ordered 2500k, asrock p67 pro3(b3) and 2x4gb of kingston ram.

I will be using my old 8800gt 512 oc edition for a month or two more, before I upgrade to new gpu.

What games I could test tomorrow when I receive my parts? What games are more cpu than gpu performance dependant ?

There's a massive performance boost going from two to four cores, there's still a high boost for having a higher clocked quad too so you'll see better performance for sure. Smile

Yes. 5870 instead of a 9800 GTX did nothing, going to an i5-760 from an E8400 was a world of difference for me Smile

Not much to optimise when your textures are 32x32 and you're using a 2004 engine.

Battlefield 3, it's demanding on both but the CPU more.

edit: and pretty much any open world game (Saints Row, Prototype 2,Skyrim)

Confused
guys,i had tons of fun with SR2 (after getting a quad core cpu,so the game doesn't suffer from constant stuttering).Coop-wise it was even more fun to play than SR3

Xenoblade chronicles (WII emulation) will test your CPU for real. I can only just touch 30 FPS on my i7 laptop ~2.8ghz. It will also look good while doing it!

X3 Albion (Space) can also deal some damage with the XRM mod installed. Some pretty huge fleet battles going on! Wind up that view distance and watch your system melt.

Your best option in the end is emulation, even your new i5 won't be enough at times!

As far as the GAME goes, SR2 is a better game than SR3, but that doesn't excuse the horribad port job on SR2. Eve Volition apologised for it and swore to handle the port of SR3 in-house Laughing

@jermore

Aye! PCSX2 and Dolphin, those will give the biggest impression of speed boost. Though it still comes down to frequency, your i7 on your laptop isn't even remotely close to a desktop i7 .. so even a desktop 2.8Ghz i7 will be significantly faster than the 2.8Ghz mobile i7. Still, I strongly recommend 4Ghz and above for the i-series chips. My i5-25k is running at 4Ghz (4.5Ghz in the Autumn/Winter/Spring) handles Dolphin, and games such as Xenoblade, with ease Smile

With some messing around I did actually achieve stable 25 FPS (100% speed on pal version or whatever) on my poor laptop.
I was quite happy with this as it was one of the reasons I bought my laptop!

Can't say it was an easy process however, absolutely zilch headroom. Don't think it will handle The Last Story unfortunately..

Once my desktop gets too venerable for gaming I'll retire it in favor of a nice shiny i5! At the moment I don't think I really need the extra processing power. Maybe when 'next-gen' consoles arrive... excluding Wii-U.

4Ghz isn't enough for Last Story here either, or rather.. it probably IS but the build I was using had serious issues once you get into town, where it plummets hard. I had perfect framerate UNTIL then Sad

I replaced my old Q6600 with a 2500k, the huge performance difference was unexpected
I'm still using a 260gtx at 1680x1050 and can run most things on high, it was like getting a new gfx card for free
