|
 |
Looking for a Phenom II X4 or X6 CPU but heck, they are not a dime cheaper than 1 year ago! Heck they are even as expensive as two years ago. WTF?
I really need to replace my Athlon II X4 640 (4x3.0GHz) And no monies of course. I'd even buy used ones but they cost like 70-90€ wtf
Any suggestions where I might find them cheap? They seem to be quite expensive on ebay

I think it's because they're phasing out, Pumpy mate, so the prices are for older and rarer stock. It's all Bulldozer and A4/6/8/10 nowadays.

Legacy hardware always goes up in price. Especially the Phenom 2 processors since they were awesome compared to everything g since the 939 socket

You seem like a moderately wealthy duck, just bite the 300€ bullet already

The CPU you have should still last you untill you have money. Unless you can find some great used parts for good money, don't even bother I'd say.

Nope, the CPU is limiting me badly! I can't imagine phenoms to be this slow. When I join a freshly restarted DayZ Server I have 60FPS. After 1 hours this drops to 10 FPS.
Something that i5 users do not experience
And I can't get Project Cars to run constantly at 60FPS, no matter which resolution.

Athlon 2 quad ...
You shouldn't have gone quad. You should have gotten a faster X2 or X3. I think you should play around with the gfx options and save money to get a new system. Intel this time.

The games I play all benefit from quad, but it's the architecture of the athlon II that is limiting.
Even a 3.5GHz athlon II wouldn't cut the deal. Also I love doing 3d rendering and video recording, cutting, after effects... so nothing under quad ever
And as I said, no matter what graphical settings, it's impossible to have any more frames in certain games.
I know that an i5 would solve my problems but I'd need to shell out 250 euros for that and a new mobo... nope!
@dingo: we bought our cpu at approximately the same time and I am happy with it too, except for that it can't utilise my 6950 at all

Really? Hmm, so I wouldn't really benefit from upgrading my gpu :\
I am planning to get more ram tho, I need it for Adobe stuff...

78€ for the 955 and 89€ for the 965.
Too expensive and I don't know how much faster my system'd be. Maybe I'd even need to go hex core but those fuckers get hot and I assume loud

Cheap bastard. I don't know how the used market is in Germany, but people here in NL seem to think their shit is worth gold. A used 965 goes for 65-70, might as well buy a new 955.
As for the upgrade, I think you're looking at + 15-20% with the 955. I've been reading articles and reviews for days now, I can say that anything less than 200 euros is not worth it. You'll be throwing money in a pit basically.

No reason to buy Phenom II anymore, its already very outdated like yours Athlon II, its just not gonna cut it for newest games. Just save cash and get Intel setup (used P67/2500K set would be the best value).

Maybe it's outdated but I have the 955 and can play all games so far. Video card and ram have a lot of saying too, no probs with games here. Plays Take on Helicopter and Arma 2 just fine.
