Its me again Wink

anyway I have an old Mobo that is fried, though can the 1800+ Amd Athlon CPU still be among the living? Shouldnt the CPU be burned with the rest of the mobo?

Depends on why it fried? To much power could kill the mobo without the CPU.. too much heat could do the oposite.. both could do both..

You would need to check it to find out for sure, if you look at the CPU can you see any blackness around the core? Sniff it and see if it smells burnt (seriously..)..

Have to agree that from the picture it looks ok, normally its pretty obvious if its been burnt out.. but that tends to be an over heated thing, the inards could still be fried if it was a power surge (but I tend to find that only PSU's die with power surges)..

Do you have any idea what happened to the board?

The best sign to look for in a burnt out cpu is hazing. Look at the core and see if it's got the colours of the rainbow on it. Seriously. Kind of like oil on water.

Just because you see no burn marks doesn't mean that the cpu is fine, it actually says nothing. If the psu delivered just some more voltage out of the Vcore range the CPU is dead, but it doesn't mean you can see any visual damage. I don't think a broken cpu can damage a mainboard.

I was talking about heat burn out Razz, in which case you would see "burn damage" in most but not all cases. As for broken CPU's damaging boards, doesn't happen with boards these days, it just wont post.
