|
 |
Heyah !
I´ve installed two Windows XP pro on the same HD, but on different partitions (dont really know how to spell that in English, hope you know what i mean...!?). Then i formatted one partition coz i didn´t want WinXP on both. But i STILL get the choose OS selection thingy when i start up my computer. If I choose opinion 1 (Windows XP Pro), then it wont start since its the Windows on the partition that i´ve formatted. Well, i guess you understand the whole thing now !?
So...
I want to compleatly remove one selection so that i can start up my computer without having to choose OS (since i only have one...) !
Thx for yah help !

Try a google for FIX MBR..fix master boot record.
I think you can boot from the xp cd and do this from the recovery console.
If you right click my computer / properties / advanced / start up and recovery / settings / edit, mine looks like this,
Quote: | [boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect |
Yours will probably have the other partition listed.

No need to fix the mbr. Simply edit the boot.ini and remove the entry for the installation on the partition you deleted. You may also want to edit the partition number on the other install entry if you have less or more partitons as before.
Edit:
The above boot.ini only works if the os is on the first partition on the first hd. However, i have seen cases there windows simply is searching on other partitons untill it finds one.
