The first expansion pack to Lionhead's movie-making sim. The Movies: Stunts & Effects allows players to hone their movie making skills with features that can turn an ordinary script into an extraordinary blockbuster. In addition to stunts and effects, the game introduces new backdrops, costumes and props, as well as upgrades to the Advanced Movie Making mode that lets players take control of even more movie features. Players are further immersed into the Hollywood lifestyle as they train and manage stuntmen, as well as compete for industry awards and achievements by uploading their movies to The Movies' website for the entire world to see.

awesome...adds the #1 missing feature to the game...free cam. plus its a tiny rls and out on time for once so whats there not to like?

Unfortunatly the free cam has one huge bug: you can't rotate the camera, unless you're one of the lucky ones who has a mouse where the middle mouse button works in games
I've tried several mice, none of them works Sad

have you tried dl'ing the drivers for your mouse? i have 5 mice on several comps i switch between and everyone of those mice has working scroll wheel/middle mouse buttons that work in every game i try. if its an old mouse you should prolly get a new one, you can get an optical for 10 bucks, a laser for 30, dirt cheap these days.

I have tried with 2-3 different mice over the past 4 years, always installed the latest drivers avaliable, not once has it ever worked in any game
The middle mouse button works perfect in Windows though
My current mouse is only 2 years old (and was a new released mouse at that time IIRC)

btw anyone able to locate any propshop items floating around? i think it is pretty rotten of lionhead to force you to upload some movies and get enough views and ratings(virtual credit) just to be able to access a few extra sets and props and hairstyles and such. as far as i can tell you cant even buy them. seems like an odd concept to me.

How do you make someone a stuntman. I started the game, then installed the EP after playing for a bit. One of my extras was automagically made into a stuntperson, but I have no idea how to turn my other extras into stunt people. I made them train in stunts, had them shoot a movie as a stunt person and nada.they're still sitting under the extra tab. I can't find anywhere ot drop them to be stunt people.

Hrm. I wonder if that is becuase I started the game regular then added the EP. I Don't seem to have access to the stunt school.

Wooow 6 year necro ftw!


So I recently stumbled upon a let's play of the movies and started playing again and it holds up really well. awesome game.
there is an issue though, which is that it seems to start crashing later on in the game and the crashes become more and more frequent. I found no solution so I was hoping maybe someone here knows something?

basically it worked fine for the first 40 years but then it started crashing randomly when doing something like clicking a random button or when saving.
I tried running it in compatibility mode for winxp which didn't help and tried different combinations of settings and windowed/fullscreen.

I then went on to install windows xp to try it out there but I can't even get it to run at all on winxp, I just get a black screen (with sound and everything working it appears, but yeah, black screen)


Did anyone try this game recently? If so did you have success? If so what's your system setup and maybe what release did you use?

I was thinking maybe it's the crack but you can't even buy this game legally anywhere any more. There's used copies floating around but no digital versions for sale anywhere. What a shame.

I have my legit copy of both the game and expansion, and ever since they shut down the online portion of sharing movies I just cannot convince myself to reinstall. Shame, since it's a decent management game and despite the limitations and restrictions, the movie making was competent. Sad
