hey guys, its the winterstop with most things so im bored beyond relief. Hoping you guys can reccomend me a good rpg I can sink my teeth on for a while. Ill give a list of games I loved and games I didnt quite like, hopefully thatll be enough to go by.

rpgs I loved:
fallout 1/2/3 (Did not like New vegas, the mechanics had f3 beat ofcourse but the setting and cowboy mentality really didnt do anything for me)
Vampire bloodlines and vampire the masquerade
Kotor 1/2
all the deus ex's
anachronox
omikron the nomad soul

Rpgs I did not like:
Dragon age series
Skyrim(hated the setting)
dungeon siege
the witcher 1/2
risen
gothic
A-rpgs like diablo , torchlight, hellgate london

Finished alot of other basic stuff like E.Y.E. , Mass effect 1 and 2 , nox, the elder scrolls the classics like the baldurs gate's and planesape and arcanum.

Hoping there is some not too old rpg i'd could content myself with for a few weeks that I missed over the years.

I only put a few hours into me3 as It felt even more dumbed down than me2, and alot of people were telling me it really sucked so never gave it much chanche, is that one worth another shot?

Also hearing good things about that restore project for kotor 2, but since that game is one of my favorites I have probably finished that near 6 times now, does the mod warrant another playtrough if i played it that much?

Your help is greatly appreciated =)

I don't know yet (bought a cheap steam key but it's in my backlog atm), I just thought of it after seeing the ones you have in your list that seems to not include any fantasy/medieval related crap and also cause I know that a good number of humpers here really liked it.

Infinity Engine games? You can pour 100's of hours into them all.

Arcanum, worth it for the soundtrack alone (almost entirely made with a string quartet, fantastic stuff):

Aye generally im not too fond of the fantasy setting, I did however love Morrowind. and oblivion to some degree.

Dling alpha protocol to try, but if I remember the xbox version correctly I dont think i'll like it much.

Alpha Protocol has its moments, but if you didn't like it on 360 I doubt you will like it any more on PC. The control scheme is pretty horrendous, especially the hacking mini-game. It was very clearly designed as a console game.

If you liked Kotor you could try Jade Empire (runs on the same engine but actually got a reasonable PC port). It's a lot more watered down on the RPG side of things, being more action-focused and with "streamlining" taken about as far as it can go, but it's a great setting (and one that is sadly underused in RPGs). The combat is a bit bland, but it's worth a look if you've never tried it before, especially given your apparent distaste for medieval fantasy.

Speaking of which, I hesitate to suggest things like the Ultima series, Temple of Elemental Evil, Knights of the Chalice, the Gold Box games, etc. Even without the setting, I'm guessing most of those are probably too old school for your tastes (TOEE aside maybe).

NWN 2: Mask of the Betrayer is also a must play, NWN 2's original campaign wasn't anything special but fortunately MotB is a self-contained expansion so you don't need to play the OC at all if you don't want to.

I tried Neverwinter nights 2, couldnt really get into it, the setting didnt to anything for me.

Ill try jade empire, but im really looking for something deep and extensive, streamlined doesnt exactly sound like what im looking for, but its worth a shot ^^

Dark Souls, the lore is amazing if you are the type who likes to deduct information from everything you see and hear. The games you list all have a very direct narrative so I thought a change of style might be interesting. Also deep and extensive.

Deep and extensive doesn't really match overly well with a desire for something more recent. You'll probably need to cast your net back a few years to find something that matches that criteria. We live in the age of streamlined awesome button-filled console fare after all.

Certainly willing to do that, but if its say as old as infinity engine or something like that I really dont want to waste my desktops processing power on that, I can play that shtuff on my tablet at work lol.

Didnt like stalker pripyat, not enough rpg.

as much as I appreciate them, please stop the medieval/fantasy setting suggestions, ill just blow them off anyway. The only setting in that direction Ii can even remotely endure is realismish (say mount and blade) none of that hocus pocus and dragon stuff

Freedom Force vs. the 3rd Reich - actually lots of fun and very different in a light-hearted way.

If you take fantasy off the table you aren't left with a whole lot, especially given that you have seemingly played the majority of the remaining notable entries. But if you consider Deus Ex an RPG, you might want to consider its spiritual forebears System Shock 1 & 2.

Btw I am assuming, based on your list in the 1st post, that JRPGs are completely out of the question? They probably offer a few more options in non-fantasy if you are open to them.

I know im a pain guys sorry Sad

Finished the freedom force games last month, liked them quite a bit but didnt really give me the rpg feel i was looking for.

Quote:
Naw I totally understand, don't worry. It's a bit sad really how few crpg's there are that don't use the traditional high fantasy setting. There's so many potential settings that have never been used, hell just pick any century and setting from world history and it would work!

aye aye, stil dying to see that proper roman crpg or viking one. I can dream I guess.

I know that takes alot of the table, and I know im a pain lol, there isnt a whole lot I havent played since the days of yore, but hoping theres this lil gem i forgot, or one that warrants another playtrough(e.g. cant remember the entire story) that i cant think off. or maybe some indie underdog.

If you haven't played System Shock 2... then you have one of the best RPGs in the world right there even though it's so much more than "just" an RPG. Just patch it up, get the mesh/texture/model mods and enjoy one of the best games ever made.

If you liked Kotor 1 and 2 id say atleast give SWTOR a try. Its nothing deep, but I really loved the SW setting, the variety in gameplay with space combat missions, grouping, pvp etc

Also try the secret world, another interesting mmo which might not be perfect and definetly gas its flaws but also immereses you into a very interesting world and some though missions that forces you to think and pay attention to details.

I have, I wish I could go back into and undo it so I could play it with a fresh mind again. Finished a few times with those retexture mods too. They dont reach the same level as deus ex for me but they are certainly among the top games played

hated the tortanic, was way too wowish, god what a waste of 75 euros(didnt get a chanche to beta, and they wanted 3 months up front since i dont have a cc and you needed to actually buy gametime before you could get your free month)

secret world I dont know.. is it worth the purchase? I kinda gave up on mmo's after tor. they all seem to go f2p cause they suck too much for people to actually old skool sub these days.

95% of crpgs are set in fantasy setting because it's the easiest setting to do. You take some dwarves, slap few elves here and there, throw generic spells into plus put a fucking dragon as a last boss in 99% of games and you are set.

You can try Anachronox. It has great characters and setting but you will have to bear jrpg kind of combat.
X-Men Apocalypse and Marvel Ultimate Alliance if you dig arpgs/hns.
Or turn to jrpgs, they tend to have some nonstandard settings but it's just straight journey from combat to combat with occasional childish plot until you beat the last boss and than the ultimate boss and ultimate ultimate boss.

EDIT: Shit. I didn't noticed that you have played Anachronox...

If you're a real masochist you can try Ultima 9 ascension. I used to love that game but it was ridden with bugs that made it nearly unplayable. Kinda reminds me of Morrowind. There should be loads of bugfixes, gfx improvements etc online.

Mask of the Betrayer is seconded. Mix PS:T with BG2 and you get MoTB. If you loved the gold box games, this is the only game in the last 10 years that comes as close as possible to the nostalgia of the past.

Yes, yes....... fantasy played out, but, you played everything else and afaik, this is the only RPG choice you have!

or You could wait for Roman inspired indi RPG called Age of Decadence (should have been out by now) .......they are reworking a bunch of shit so who knows when. You will probably see Wasteland 2 first.

I will suggest one game for each one you said you liked.

Fallout 1/2/3 - The Fall: Last Days of Gaia
Vampire series - Arx Fatalis
Kotor 1/2 - Jedi Knight II
Deus Ex series - Project: Snowblind
Anachronox - Beyond Good & Evil
Omnikron - Outcast
