We knew it was going to happen eventually, right? Japanese publisher/developer Gamepot has officially announced Wizardry Online, a dungeon-crawling MMORPG that serves as a persistent world continuation to Sir-tech's long-running series. I don't have a translated press release to offer you at the moment, but I do have an announcement trailer and fourteen early images for you to check out in the meantime
Wizardry would be nice to see again but seeing the console version they're developing makes me wonder a bit, unsure how the MMO version would compare though.
Never played a Wizardry game before, but from what I know it was similar to the Might & Magic series (which I loved, though played very little of those too), wasn't it?

At a quick glance they were rather similar even going back as far as the DOS age (EDIT: Era) Wizardry and Might and Magic titles (Or Ultima early on.), I only played Wizardry 8 (I was a child when the first ones were released.) so I wouldn't be able to give a good comparison though I liked the game a lot.
Yeah the little RPG series trilogy, kind-of bound together with how neither of them managed a ninth title in the series successfully.
(SirTech being laid-off, Ultima being completely redesigned and Might & Magic being rushed.)
Video, guy reminds me of that metal armor character used for the promo material in Demon's Souls.
EDIT: Well damn, it might be a cinematic trailer (At shit resolution.) but that there is EXACTLY how I felt playing old dungeon explorer games like Wizardry, M&M and the like (Eye of the Beholder, Dungeon Master, Lands of Lore and so on.)
(Sort of how it usually ended up at the beginning, have a party of characters but then the priest dies, mage get's badly wounded and lacks mana, ranger doesn't have a clear aim and the warrior is starving or suffering from some other condition or status like say hunger, disease, paralysis, blindness, fear etcetera, wonder how this game will be in comparison to that, outside of players often logging out or quitting if they get cornered or overpowered.)
Tried it about 2 weeks ago. Unistalled it after 10 minutes.
Felt extremely boring to play and it looked ugly, thanks to overusing bloom again.
But maybe i just was not in the mood for the game at the moment...
But best part is, there "3 Great Reasons to play":
- Hardcore MMORPG Players Rejoice!
- Avoid Permadeath!
- Amazing Anime Characters and Creatures!

I've only seem some screenshots but that was long ago, however comparing against the other recent entries then lately these so called "next-gen" Wizardry games have indeed used a more cartoon like style, or well anime to use that term.

installed it, tried to play it.. couldnt connect to servers...uninstalled
Worst reason to uninstall a game ever. Try not to make you look like an idiot who gets so easily swayed by the opinions of others.
Me on the other hand am downloading it now. Never played any Wizardry game before, so i have no idea if i'll like it.
Have fun trying to even connect to the game. Here's a warning, this MMO is not very good. By that I mean the production values is low, graphics are poor, unskippable cutscenes. Unless you are really into "hardcore" MMO, I suggest not to bother with this at all.
Wizardry: Tale of the Forsaken Land the only japanese Wizardry i ever played was pretty good ( there are actually way more japanese Wizardrys then western made see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wizardry most of them never got released in the west)
but i wouldnt touch this MMO with a 10-foot pole
I touched it, and i'm never touching it again. I really can't stand Japanese styles of games, movies or anything anime. I completely agree with dannofdawn. You realize this game is shit the second you get into it. You just feel the low quality that this game brings. Fuck this, game isn't worth the time i'm putting into writing this.
I played around a bit. Mechanically the game seems pretty average/poor.. but I like the ideas they're trying to do.
I pulled my sword out in town (gross) and I got yelled at that it was a bad idea, which is cool, seems like you can be a total bastard (with repercussions).
If the game received a spit shine somehow, and cleared up their network issues, it might not be a bad little adventure to go on. The "perma-death" shit is like half-true, which sucks, but... guess we'll see.
I'll keep it installed and play around some more here and there after some launch issues are cleared up. ;p

I do like how the combat has active block, backsteps and left click to attack. But I don't think that is enough to keep me interested.
