2013-01-28 10:47

Developed by Austrian developer Crafty Games, Realms of Arkania – Blade of Destiny is a one-to-one remake of the 1992 original, adored by a generation of Role Players and one of the most successful German RPG’s of the 1990’s. Get ready to return to Thorwal, one of the oldest cities of Aventurien. Make sure your wits are sharpened before walking down the small alleys of Thorwal and Prem, and prepare to stop the Orcisch threat while creating a mighty alliance between nations. Featuring a complete visual reimagining along with a comprehensive overhaul of every aspect of the
gameplay, Realms of Arkania – Blade of Destiny is set to captivate a 21st century audience of new and old fans alike.

Awww yeah, more TDE (and an old one at that)! I though all hope was lost after the developers of Drakensang went bankrupt.

Quote on the article from RPGCodex:

Quote:
If you don't speak German, translate the whole three page article for yourself with google translate or whatever, but here are some
noteworthy parts from a GameStar journalist who was able to testplay and chat with the developers:

- It is a remake very close to the original with tactical, turn-based combat. Fights can last twenty minutes. Cover/terrain is a modifier in battle, a
mage can hide behind a wall and peek. Dice rolls are simulated and there is an option to directly show the dice results.

- The travel map is back and travel is like in the old game where you can set up guards, hunting, herb collecting and so on when camping.

- Talents like music making, haggling and romancing are in and will all be useful (for instance to play in a tavern to earn ducats).

- The graphics are worse than Witcher 2, but include nice weather effects and day/night cycles and are not so important in the grand scheme
of things, as this game is a remake close to the original.

- 80 hours are needed to complete all quests.

- The game will cost 20 Euro.

Sounds great! Hopefully I can be more successful than I was when I played Arkania 3 as a kid. I was so proud when i finally managed to beat the first(?) cave with the orcs and the dragon at the end. I also remember being lost more often than not since it was very difficult to figure out how to use certain items and certain places.

Also the knight the boots was a tough one...

I actually completed this game a few years ago (it was way too complicated for me at the time) and I had a blast! Very fun game but I wonder how much of the original's appeal they'll be able to convert. Having cities be cities is already a big plus since the original's cities were pretty bad.

Im all for taking away tedious unnecessary tasks that really bring nothing to the game but if they start taking away what made the first trilogy such an amazing experience I can't see myself enjoying this game
