"On July 19, 2012, the Sun produced a medium-size solar flare," NASA says on this new video captured by its Solar Dynamics Observatory, "what occurred with the flare was amazing." It's true. It's amazing. Fire started to fall down like rain—a hell waterfall many times the size of planet Earth. You have to watch this uncanny document for yourself.

What I'm wondering is, is that a computer rendered simulation of the real thing, or do we really have that detailed imagery (from Hubble or whatever)?

Yes, yes I'm back.

Seems like real imagery to me.

The sun is huge and the flares produced are also colossal. You can buy a solar telescope, use some spec filters and you can see the flares yourself. The satellite used to capture this surely have more sophisticated equipment. Smile

Really makes you wonder what it's like in other universes. Sucks that in my lifetime we'll probably still be stuck in this one and not get people exploring around.

It's amazing how the plasma moves exactly the way magnetic field tells it to. (Lines of this magnetic field can literally be seen.)

And awesome 'firefall', of course. However, I just prefer to watch it from safe distance. Very Happy
