And they are right on track to getting the worst company in the US award again
Good job EA, can't have it that people might actually start to like you as company right?

A bit OT, but still related. I always wondered why console games were so 'neatly' priced, no matter what publisher released the game. How is that possible? Do all publishers uphold some unwritten pricing law? You can regularly see variation in price when it's a PC game, even in a regular retail shop, but I don't remember any console game deviating from that magic mark (budget games ignored).

If these end up being $70 and all you get is a digital code to download the games, I think I will give up console gaming especially with the way the PS3 only allows 5 reinstalls of the digital content so I can see the PS4 following suit.

It's combination of MSRP + some share for Microsoft (due to the fact that XBOX in the begging was sold under the cost of manufacturing) atleast in case of XBOX.

70 usd for a game? Welcome to my world, bitches
honestly, all this will do is make people more bitter, drive up piracy, push down preorders, and make low low low price sales much more attractive (and by extention, WAITING for those sales, rather than buying new)
but honestly, i dont give a fuck. very few games these days are ever worth paying full price for anyway.
ALSO i would never target blame exclusively at EA over this stuff, when activision really are the leaders in jacking up pricing, and wanting to go even further, and WB and Sega are also getting in on this shit. WB were the second ones after activision to push up the pricing on steam to 100 usd for nz/au, after activision did it.

Price isnt everything, these points are far more alarming imo:
Seeing new ways to approach current IP's and new IP's.
The ability to have cross platform play, will open up new consumer base.
EA has slimmed down their lineup from 85 games to 15 core titles
Allows stream lining the backbone of game creation
So basically what they're saying is that EA want to streamline their titles further, dumbing them down even more and adding more superficial gfx awesomeoness so they can sell their titles for any price.
Although as Ive stated earlier, Im very happy this is happening. The cause effect will be an ever growing alternative scene with some of the older truer pc devs and new guys with a distaste for EA will keep making better and higher quality games that arent as derped and "stream lined" as most AAA titles.

So what is everyone thinking about the chances of getting console ports on PC? I mean developers will be concentrating more on console releases, right? Because consoles are new sales should be at a high for new games. So will that mean less games for PC?

The problem is not "just" the 70€/$ . . .
The problem is also that is bind to an account, you might not even be able to resell . . .

EA's intentions have been clear since forever, this is their perfect vision of the future, and as long as micro-transactions are a marginal aspect aimed to the sheeps willing to shell money for iHats and silly gadgets made in EA, I can live with that.
As for the price, piracy will fix everything , at least when it comes to most of these overrated AAA games. Besides, I don't think that the PC's future is in danger.

What you youngsters may not understand is that the gamesindustry is, as the name suggests, a business. There is no space for developers and publishers who are doing it for any other reasons than maximizing profit.
EA is clearly doing the right thing and showing other publishers where the future lies.
You didn`t complain about the real money auction house in diablo why should you complain now?
Besides there are more reasons to raise the price of video games. Lets face it, the new console generation demands more investment from the publishers side.
Long story short it is 2013 and not as easy as in the atari console era to develop games.
Deal with it!
