Im in the mood for a mmorpg... i dont have that much time, but i play in my own pace anyway.
Tried TESO, but i dont like the setting somehow. Wildstar was too much comic for my taste. Wow... bäh.
Which one do you have the most fun with atm?

Guild Wars 2 is cool.

The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.

GW2 last one after WoW that I actually enjoyed. TES:O wasn't bad either.
If you want decent F2P games: Age of Conan, Lord of the Rings Online and Everquest II.

Are there any MMOs out there with skill-based, non-targeting combat AND non-static mobs? These two are my biggest gripes when it comes to MMOs. The first has been taken care of somewhat in certain titles, but the latter doesn't seem to change.

I liked GW2 SP, but never liked the MP somehow. Tried Rift when it came out, did it get better? LOTR was fun back then, dunno how it is now... Everquest 2 is really old Surprised and Age of Conan was fun for a while too... have to check some youtube vids.

When i played Rift again about half a year ago it still was VERY active. And the f2p model their seems to be one of the fairest
And from what i read, there are still regular content patches coming out and events

LOTR effectively ditched its MP part a while ago, existing (scalable) old content was left in a bad shape thanks to a pile of issues nobody cared enough to fix in a reasonable time. Imagine NGE-like class revamp along with absurd combat difficulty (or lack of any, think ME3 "story mode", people soloing raids etc) and continuous itemization fails that ensured incoherent loot tables and diminished motivation to actually pursue harder tiers. Then add utterly retarded paradigm of RNG-driven rewards along with slot machine & RMT mentality that reeks of Zynga. Oh and also they fired a significant number of their staff, announced "no new expansions policy" for the predictable future and gave another bunch of promises. Don't even ask about mounted combat or "Epic Battles" Wink

On the other hand landscape looks better (some areas being very impressive), music jumps from "wtf synch" to "good" for a while. While story itself can be decent from time to time, it's still "gather 10x bullshit" at its core.

If you are looking for solo-oriented experience and have some soft spot for the franchise, you might actually have some fun. Unless you start asking yourself what's the point of playing SP MMO, when there's a lot of much better SP games.

No, they're all shite, with no sense of imagination, or indeed gameplay. anything free-to-play is pointless nby default as it costs more money than sense to be even remotely playable.

GW2 is ALOMST good, but suffers with the same problem that almost all MMO games suffer with - totally non-skill based combat; if you can click a button you will win, unless your gear isn't quite high enough, then you'll lose.

All MMO's are primarily based on gear, as this is the only thing that you can really aim for.

My perfect MMO would be 90% skill based, with only a small benefit gained by gear.

Oh, and XP would be entirely scrapped - hate XP, it's an artificial barrier to actually feeling proper achievement. Instead it would be based on how much you use or do something - swing your sword, ,hit something, your level in swords goes up slowly. same for defense, spells etc etc.

And then, there are no player/mob 'levels' - you just have to hope your skills in certain things are high enough otherwise you die.

Oh and combat? Entirely stamina/mana based. If you swing a sword, it's taken as read you can parry, or dodge (depending on you base class), and if wearing heavy armour, you can take some damage to specific areas of the body before there is damage (depending on what you're hit with).

Once your stamina runs down, you can't hit as hard, and you're in danger of being hit. If you don't have any armour in the area you're hit in, you suffer serious damage - head or chest, you are most likely dead. Limbs? You will suffer bleeding, and limb loss or crippling. (see Fallout).

Thats the basics of my ideal game - and no, it doesn't exist.

From what you want it sounds like Mortal Online seems to come closest, but sadly their execution leaves something to be wished for. I left like 6 months after launch cause the game was being duped to death lol. Feature wise it was a very interesting game though

If you want true skill based with aiming urself then there is only one around and with the new UI update and edit mode for it and tons of changes of late with the game itself Darkfall uholy wars is your only option for what you are looking for.

Mortal online is buggy and still plagued with hacks that still work. Dont go there.

Somehow I missed Darkfall, my only personal issue is it's entirely PvP - I'm not personally very much into that - shame as the game itself looks quite interesting.

If only ESO was well, like ES, without the fake aiming system - that could have been such a good game.

Wildstar Wildstar Wildstar.

Rift was awesome, but.....it's starting to show it's age. It is too slow paced for me after getting two toons to 50 in Wildstar.

Great game.

Skill based MMO... let me save you the trouble: play FPS's you'll better off with them.
If you want new stuff, well most new stuff is just horrible.

I'm playing one on and off that I love to death, but I'm willing to bet it's not for most people around here: SWG-EMU

@Kaltern
I get what you are saying, but what you want is for a very niche market. We'll only see those kind of MMO's from low budget developers even if they somehow pull it off you wont have enough players for the long term.

Ah right forgot about: Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn

I absolutely hated the FFXIV beta, but I think they did a stellar job with the remake compared to that one. Me and my girl enjoyed the beta for A Realm Reborn quite a bit, we just didn't want to commit ourselves to an MMO and a monthly sub. We didn't have that much time to justify it.

i tried a few popular mmo's, and terra had the least boring gameplay with very nice graphics, i played that for 5-6 days then got bored, uninstalled and will never touch mmo's again. I'm burned out with repetitivness and kill 5 of that , 5 of this, pick up 5 bananas. Probably mmo's are reason why i don't play "normal" games much and don't find games appealing anymore like before.

I come back to LOTRO every couple years because it's the best rendition of ME in any game to date in terms of atmosphere, lore etc. but it's sad to see what they've turned the game into. Not only is the new content lame and unimaginative as outlined above, they actually retroactively make old areas worse.
I haven't touched the game since they turned Moria from one of the coolest, most dangerous and epic zones into a casualfest of boredom.

Why is EVE on that list? Technically it's still sub-based.
