Official Site:http://rugbychallengegame.com/ Release Date: Q3 2011
Platforms: PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation Vita
Developer: Sidhe
Publisher: Tru Blu Entertainment
Genre: Sports (Rugby)
Mode(s): Single-player, Multiplayer
Rugby Challenge will be based on Sidhe's previous Rugby League games.
It will feature 98 teams, 31 stadia and 11 competitions as well as extensive Tutorial Mode options available for players new to the sport. The tutorial helps get you up to scratch and a lot of work has been put into making this both easy and accessible. Various skills, such as running between cones, practicing kicks, and many other drills will have you doing behind-the-back passes and side-stepping opponents in no time. Apart from single and multi-player options, you'll also be able to play up to 13 seasons and attempt a legacy in Franchise Mode. Franchise mode will include both international and representative teams. You will be able to choose a club and an international side to play as during the years. There is a World Championship in Franchise Mode.
Extensive Customization
Create and/or customise players, teams, and competitions, using the extensive customisation tools to shape the game to your own preferences and keep the game fresh season after season.
True Authenticity
Dynamic presentation delivers a true on-field rugby experience with enhanced replay angles, lifelike cut-scenes, minor features such as weather effects, TMO, on-field referee and touch judges, the traditional 'Ka Mate' Haka, realistic team tactics/playing styles, rich sound, and real-time commentary from seasoned rugby commentators Grant Nisbett and Justin Marshall.
In-Game Rugby Store
All Blacks Rugby Challenge also features Rugby Money, which players can use to obtain unlockables. These rewards come from completing various activities, whether running through the tutorials or playing online, and can be spent in the Rugby Store. This is not an online function, but rather an in-game unlockable system similar to Sidhe's Rugby League games.
Licences
Rugby Challenge will feature 94 licensed/unlicensed teams, an additional 4 miscellaneous teams, and 31 stadiums from New Zealand, Australia, South Africa & Europe.[5][6]Due to rival game, Rugby World Cup 2011, the official strip/emblem/stadium/player likenesses of England, South Africa and France, and the official strip/emblem/stadium of Wales, Scotland, Ireland and Italy will not be included within the game. However, due to Top 14, Aviva Premiership and RaboDirect Pro12 licenses the players of these countries will be included within the game (England, France, Ireland, Wales, Scotland & Italy). Rugby legend Jonah Lomu has also lent his likeness and expertise to the game, the European game will feature him on the cover, and the game will be called Jonah Lomu Rugby Challenge.

I don't know which engine they're using in Rugby Challenge but it's quite impressive (some transitional animations aren't perfect but the physics seem to be good)
Rugby Challenge will be released on September 2nd, 2011 in New Zealand with a September 8th release in Australia and South Africa. It will be on the Xbox 360 and PS3 for now. The PC version of the game will be announced later.
Wait so a small NZ game company makes a rugby game and it already looks better and more atmospheric than the million selling fifa and pes franchises? ...
Yeah, according to the review it has some unpolished elements here and there, but the quality is very good (looks like the company has 115 people in it, not as small as I imagined )
ubisoft and activision could come together and make a cover-based rugby game with always-online drm, and only about 2 matches and only two teams with the rest of the content needing to be bought through drm, and it would STILL be a top selling game in nz.
I loved Jonah Lomu Rugby on the PS1. Me and my buddy would play for hours and he could never beat me, he would then get angry and throw the controller. Funnily enough he text me from Ibiza this morning, and when he gets home from working there next month I'm going to give him a beating in this version too
The commentator in that game was one of the most famous ever i.e. Bill McLaren and I had the pleasure of meeting him in 1981 or 82 when I was a boy. Wales were training at the South Wales Police rugby ground and my Dad, uncle and myself went to watch them train, and there was Bill McLaren watching and making notes ahead of the game
Yep, I've checked and seems that the official date is October 21th:

But Rugby Challenge is the nucleus of a truly great rugby sim. It's certainly the best rugby game currently available and one can only imagine the heights it could scale if a publisher with enough cash were to throw its weight behind it.
Awesome.
Rugby World Cup 2011 on the other hand is just a masked Rugby 08 with few shaders added and some new teams
