My wife and I are going to be in Ireland in May. We will be there for 6 nights in 4 different hotels all across the southern section. We will have a rental car and are free to go whereever we want and not locked into any guided tour group. The last time I was there was in 1984 and I was 16. So is there anything or any place that we absolutely must check out, or conversely, that we should avoid?

Watch out for the deadly leprechauns! Vicious little animals!

On a serious note, can't help with recommendations but I can wish you and your wife a lovely vacation. Heard from family they just loved their stay there and usually they bring up that they'll go revisit it some day Smile

Stay in the touristy areas of the south and west, as a precautionary because things are starting to get a bit volitile again. Stick to the nice horse rides and so forth and farm areas, Im speaking from experience and inside info of late of irelands amazing arms cache finds, you dont hear half of it by the way, its just a few mortars Very Happy sure.....

Not saying US citizens are targets but hey you never know :O Be safe, enjoy ireland the south is the better part for scenery.

I'd give you advice, but this was my trip to Ireland nearly 5 years ago (middle to north, no south).. rented a car in dublin and did about 1300km in a week and a half (with 4 days in dublin)



we booked a hotel in dublin but were able to find a bed and breakfast place every night easily along the way.
