Hello everyone , I hope I'm not fucking up or anything by posting this to wrong forum , anyway problem is ..
I use DVD Decrypter to write my ps2 games (in .img format ) , everything works great, no crashes no nothing .. then i take my nice dvd-r with me to living room and stick it in to a modded ps2 .. but I have this kinky idea that the mod-chip is pretty old , so is it possible that the newer games a la mercenery and gta : sa aint working on my ps2 because the mod-chip is a bit older ?

No, not at all. Any game will work if one game work with your chip Smile

Although, they may work bad if you have an old ps2 that you have used alot and because of that the laser might be bad. those two games demand alot since they read the disc constantly. But you will notice that while playing Smile

By the way, you shuld have posted it in console-tech Wink

well , the problem is that ps2 doesn't recognise ( dunno , if spelled correctly ) those dvd-'rs . I enter the disc and starts to read , reads for 10-20 secs and then says not a ps2 disc or whatever , or insert a ps2 disc ..

That can happen, it even happens on my duo2se machine sometimes. The boot success rate on the cheaper chips and older chips is not 100%.
Just keep on rebooting and try again Smile
The best way to boot a game that I have noticed and that almost gurantees a 100% success rate is if you let the ps2 boot up without a disc in, then at the boot screen insert the disc and close the tray, this works almost all the time on my machine. The error you desribe happens sometimes when I open the tray right away and pop the disc in.

By the way.
Have you used the same disc's for other games in the past? And did they work if so?

Try some other media then. It can very well be the problem.
Or maybe it's the write that isn't very good.

This will almost certainly be your media. I've had a few makes that work fine on Xbox, but just don't cut it on PS2. PS2 does seem quite picky!

I use RiDisc 8x DVD-R (ridisc.com) and buy a hundred at a time. Not had one coaster! Only about 30p each. (55 cents)

Decrypter is fine, so you shouldn't have a problem with that. Also my PS2 mod is way old, an early Messiah, but enjoy all the latest releases.

Oh lord, platinum dvd's suck big time. They are ok for cd-r but no way for dvd.

Go for some ritek or verbatim, those are quality media, and especially verbatim.

About the ps2 being picky, that is actually not true at all. Just dont buy crap media Wink
Everything I have tried have worked like a charm, and I have used over 10 different media. Smile
Now I always buy verbatim though.

The modchip won't give you problems, just the ps2's laser if it's old. My buddy has an old modded ps2 and it has trouble with some games. I also heard of tons of people's ps2's crapping out while playing san andreas.

Topic moved to proper section~~

My knackered old PS2 (pre-ordered) dosn't like a number of of the purple coated media. In fact I'm using up a batch (PC Line) that I originaly bought for my PS2 which refuse to work, but quite happily run on my XBox and PC. So my experience is that the PS2 can be quite choosie about the make of media you force feed into it's tray!

Also, using an external hard drive hooked up to the ps2 and using a prog called HdLoader lets you play the games straight of the hd, so you wouldn't need to read off the ps2's eye, and the games would never lag.

PC Line is extremely shitty disc's though fishslice.
You can consider yourself very lucky that they even booted on the xbox. Smile

You will always find some media that obviously wont work for each console. But most of the time the ps2 will accept it just like that, as long as it's not total crap, but you shuldn't buy total crap anyway since the life span on those aren't as high as on quality media.
Obviously it also depends on how good the laser is, like on any console. A newer laser will read bad media better than an older laser.

A good place to see what media is good is this site.
www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia
It's good to check other peoples experience about the brand you are going to buy. Smile

You should really use better media, like someone said already ritek and/or verbatim are excelent choices...

You can also have a HD on the PS2 i have an internal one and it works like a charm.
