Wow. I got pretty stunned after seeing the vids. Seems like Enlightment is going towards MS Aero/Avalon type of desktop. It definitely seems worth a try.

If you're not familiar with Enlightment, It's a window manager for Linux.

Damn thats nice.. I would try it but the only linux system I have right now is the xeon Sad! Do we have any idea what that was running on?

:edit:

thought I should add a little more, although I should be working, if you couldnt tell by my spam this past few days, I REALLY DONT WANT TO WORK!

It looks to me like they have taken the massive configuration options of the previous windows one step beyond, the ability to dynamicly edit each desktop element is an amazing idea, how other non E17 applications would handle that remians to be seen. As with all new technology I imagine very few of the desktop apps built for KDE, GNOME etc.. would run perfectly on this manager, it would be worth a test though, as anyone with half a brain would have tried to incorporate some sort of compatability options off the bat for these two very popular managers.

The future of desktop environments is an interesting one. With programs like SphereXP and environments like Suns 3D desktop (its name has escaped me at the time of writting :: LOOKING GLASS (I remembered)) the world is growing. I read an article a few months back (based on suns 3d desktop) which asked the question "Are 3d desktops needed", I took a long think about it and decided that it was certainly the next step forward, but that we should probably take things a little slower than Sun's environment which had abilities to move every desktop item in a 3d world, maybe a little OTT, but certainly showing off what could be done on rather low end hardware (I tested it on a ACER travel mate with a 64mb ATI 7000m and it worked beautifully).

This looks like it could be a gnome/KDE beater, not just because of its "prettiness" but also due to its obvious configuration options.

We shall see, if we can get some specs Ill consider dual booting and giving this one a go on my main desktop.
