Act of War, Age Of Empires3 (thats a given), and Earth2160. There is also Cossacks2, and some other RTSes out there but its gonna be a fab year for RTSes especially with AgeOfEmpires3 (probably the best gfx and gameplay out there!!)
Not gonna diss AoW although the lack of DirectIP is utterly assinine. However, nothing a little BattleLan/GiT shouldn't fix. Hate LagSpy!

Total Annihilation 2, which is coming out some time this year, I hope they keep the awesome gameplay of the original. Thats what im looking forward to. And of course AoE3 looks good. I'm not to impressed with act of war or empire earth though, they are pretty cloney. Earth 2160 looks nice to, earth 2150 was a kick ass game, almost as good as TA, but just a wee lacking.
No strategy game will ever compare to TA though.

Act of War for me.
Those pro FMV cutscenes bring back all the nostalgic memories of the C & C Series. Hopefully gameplay follows suite.
I for one don't trust EA w/ R.A. 3 - but hey, maybe they'll redeem themselves.
After all, if anyone knows how to whore out a franchise, its EA.
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

Well for one thing they're actually trying something new with the RTS genre, being that you can control a hero in battle. Also the way the ships collide looks fantastic.
Empire earth 2 looks set to add absolutely nothing new to the genre, same with act of war.
Age of empires? Well considering they're vetrans of the genre I can imagine them pulling something innovative out of their asses, but we'll have to wait and see.

I personally think command and conquer games are done. Their gameplay style was good back in the day, but now that style is pretty stupid. There is of course C&C generals which went away from that style, but IMO, generals was NOT like a normal C&C game. Age of empires 3 will be nice, but only because of the fact that it has kick ass graphics, and some other cool features, in reality though, if they dont make the gameplay in AoE3 more in-depth, it will be pretty stupid. The problem with the past AoE games is that they were not won by much strategy. Whoever had the most units, or the largest number of the most powerful units would always win the game, it was rare that real strategy would let you win in those games.

There have been so many disappointing RTS's recently. Dawn of War looked really promising but unless your a space marine fan the game's no good. Plus it gets ridiculous seeing units shoot each other through hills and buildings. BFME was cool at first but there just wasn't enough variety to keep it interesting. And since EA's behind it who knows if it'll ever be balanced and bug-free.
I'm really looking forward to Act of War. Seems like a great RTS based on modern warfare AND it should be comming out any day now. Plus the devs have really been keeping in touch with the community, even going on gamefaqs to answer questions there. AOE3 looks promising, too. It'll probably have the best grahpics and physics engine of any RTS to date. But it won't be out until the end of this year or the beginning of the next so there's no need to get excited about it any time soon. I tried the Empire Earth 2 demo but I wasn't to thrilled about it. Gameplay seemed a bit rigid and slow paced.

Come back in 2-3 months before the expansion when Dawn Of War has almost all the remaing War40k factions put in (11 in total) including advanced Skirmish AI and then you'll sing a different tune. Further, the expansion: WinterAssault comes in Sept-Nov so that'll spark mass interest again. Yes the game seems semi-bland and the rocket/bullets going through mountains/hills is engine-related but the game itself is so massively being worked on its just bloody exciting!

I never played/painted warhammer figures... Still I think it was the best RTS for 2004 :S

I remember you said something fairly similar about The Battle for Middle Earth in respect to Rome: Total War - and one gets the idea you based that opinion on the press blurb and amazing screenshots they released as well.
I'm not saying your wrong, but maybe your being a little presumptuous again?

Hi boys,
I'm an old skool RTS gamer and I'm waiting too for AOW but I have to confess something: the last week end I tried Massive Assault and I got addicted to it.
More fun and ownage than Warcraft, Zero Hour, BFME, DOW, AOX, etc.... even if it is a turn based strategy game! I think that it could be a sign that I'm getting too old to play mouse click fest! But it is very fun, I assure you!
Now the (stand alone) part-two is going to be released shortly with the name of Domination.
Here it is some bit of info:
http://www.wargaming.net/
http://www.domination-game.com/
If someone has the curiosity, the following link offers the demo of the first Massive Assault which kept me busy the last week end:
http://www.massiveassault.com
The new version is already gold, and they are selling a Russian version right now. Release in USA and UK is very close.
Hi
