Still life is the upcoming adventure game form Microids, the makers of syberia. The release is planned for 14th of april.

Description:

Victoria McPherson is a brilliant young FBI agent who's investigating a serial murder case in Chicago. The body count is now at five and she has no real leads, nothing but a mountain of circumstantial evidence and a boss who's breathing down her neck.
In order to take a break from it all, she decides to visit her father in the suburbs. Their discussions involve family stories which include Victoria's grandfather, who used to be a private investigator. This leads Victoria to read one of her grandfather's old case files, a file which reveals an uncomfortably high number of similarities between a seventy-five year old case in Europe and the current string of killings in Chicago...

Take a deep breath and enter Still Life.

I've been looking foward to this game quite a while now, it looks wonderful. A dark adventure from the makers of Syberia, can it go wrong?
I don't think so. Very Happy

Looks excellent, though i would have liked it more without the horror part in it. I mean, how many really serious detective games are there, it would have been cooler if you really need to investigate without the horror fiction, they could add some fear in a normal way by humans ambushing you in dark area's etc. But the game looks good, looking forward to it.

I played the demo, interesting game, nothing special though. There are alot of other games in this genre who own this. Thing that really disturbed me is the fact that you can't set resolution at all. The game runs on what? 800x600? And that's horrible on a 19 inch monitor. Game starts right off, no menu nothing. Rolling Eyes

Old, but best in the adventure genre imho: Syberia II and Vampire Bloodlines.

Syberia I and Syberia II are the best.
But this one is also very good, only playing at 800x600 on a 19" monitor is indeed horrible. But the gameplay and the graphics are very good. The game has something was other games doesn't have... The same feeling as both Syberia's...

The Still Life demo didn't really remind me much of Syberia, although I consider that a good thing. Syberia (1 at least, I never played 2) always seemed like just another Myst clone to me, and the Myst series are some of the most boring games ever made imo. Was Syberia II a lot different than the original?

I'd recommend playing Post Mortem while you're waiting for this to be released, if you haven't already. It's one of the better adventures I've played, and it introduces one of the main characters in Still Life too. The only thing about Still Life that I'm a bit leery of is that it seems like they're going for some supernatural angle rather than just making a gritty, realistic murder mystery. Well, that and the 800x600 resolution, that choice is a bit baffling too. I can understand fixed resolution, but would it have been that hard to render the scenes at 1024?

I hope it's a good game though. I can count the truly great adventures that have come out since Blade Runner (still the best of the genre, I wish somebody would make a game with today's graphics that had gameplay/story that good--was hoping for something like that from Moment of Silence, but that game fell flat) on one hand, maybe both hands if I was being generous.
