Freelancer was good... you could go wherever you wanted, fight who you wanted. But in the core it doesn't give you full freedom. You do the story missions, after that there isn't much more to do except discover some secret regions and weapons and fight several different clans.
X2 is what you should get for full complexicity. The universe is huge, and you have full freedom over everything. Kinda like morrowind for space. You can build own space factories, send own convoys, handle with goods, collect them yourselves (or let that do by the cpu of course) have a full space industrie going. You can start wars against other factions, play them up against one another, be pirate, join factions, command huge battlecruisers, directly take place in a small fighters etc. Its pretty much full freedom. Graphics are good (bump maps, self shadowing etc) better than freelancer, and its less arcade flight feeling, much more space simulation...

Is X2 an RPG? What i want is a Space game where your actually flying the ships yourself not click and move etc.
Even though I am a huge Civ 3 RPG fan, I would just like a game where i can fly around in total freedom.
lol

Try freelancer in multiplayer mode. It's a lot of fun to hook up with some people and fly missions or try to get prototype weapons en very good ships.
In multiplayer you haven't got a story, you're free to do whatever you like.
A site about freelancer that's worth checking out is www.lancerseactor.com.
You can play online with a cracked copy of freelancer and you don't need to install any updates.
