|
 |
My HDD broke down so i got new one, but now I am not sure if i should install Win 7 x64 i already had or Windows 8.1 x64. Dont much care about FPS boost but i care for compability of some older titles. I would like to know the list of older games you guys wasnt able to run in Win 8.1. I am intersted on info about if i can run some old games (Crysis, Fallouts , Diablos, firs CoDs and such) or even older games (Dungeon Keeper 2, Sacrifice,..and similar games)
thx.

I wouldn't go with 8.1 but hey there's always dual boot if you are worried about compatibility issues.

dk 1/2 works fine.
i play a lot of old games usually and i dont remember having any major issues with them.
the only issue i had is with homeworld 2, but i had problems on win7 x64 aswell.

windows 8.1 is just fine actually, as for compatibility it runs all those titles you mentioned, and if some even older titles didn't then you could just put compatibility mode on.

i would write a list and explanations ,about Win7 and Win8 and Win8.1 compatibility issues with DX9/ Legacy Gdi titles/Memory management issues/32bit emulation Dll etc... ,
but King sabin , neona and their trusty followers will just contradict this with nonsense
so fuck this forum

"Contradict with facts" you mean? Far Cry 2 works perfectly on Win7-x64. You need to get over it hfric, really.

With Windows 7 I disabled AERO for some emulators, because its vsync caused stuttering. With Windows 8 this is no longer possible/feasible. I think I had problems with a N64 emulator...

Pretty sure witcher 1 is not working. I had to switch back to win7 to play. And no, none of the workarounds worked for me.

the combo you need is DESKtop+win 7x64, then you won't have any further issues to discuss

Works perfectly fine here on W8.1, didn't change a thing.
Never had problems with any games or software on W8.1 either.

Haven't tried it since i switched to 8.1. Just installed it via steam and tried it out. Works fine for me.
Essentially everything that i had running in windows 7 x64 has worked for me in 8.1 x64. Once you get rid of metro (make sure that you get to the desktop when you login and install a start-menu app, i use start8) it works like win7 but feels a bit faster (atleast on my machine)

"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."
