Baldur's Gate: Reloaded is a fan-made tribute and remake of the original Baldur's Gate using the Neverwinter Nights 2 engine.
The project started in November of 2006 and has slowly progressed since then towards completion. Our team size has varied throughout the course of development from as many as 5 members to as little as 1 member.
The planned release date is June 1, 2013. Both expansion packs to Neverwinter Nights 2, Mask of the Betrayer and Storm of Zehir, are required to play.

I can admire the amount of work but that is all.... Oh and it will get banned by ea in a blink

yeah it's not something I'd play but it's definitely impressive work.
projects like these very very rarely get finished...

No, it won't be banned by EA. Mainly, because Atari has the publishing rights for NWN 1 & 2.
EA doesn't hold the rights for NWN1&2, KOTOR1&2 (KOTOR is now at Disney in terms of publishing rights, as the games belonged to Lucas Arts), Baldur's Gate (Interplay).
Only Jade Empire, Dragon Age and Mass Effect are owned by EA. The D&D licensing is a wee bit in a limbo, with Atari losing the rights to Hasbro, but Atari retained the publishing rights for the products released by them.

Agreed. I do appreciate the effort, but I'd like to see original modules rather than rehashes of existing games.
Still, it's pretty impressive they actually managed to finish it.
Indeed, the Infinity Engine is still incredibly sexy if modded correctly, it has a certain charm that is very difficult to re-create with a full-3d engine. And it's not the nostalgia kicking in, it's a fact. But yeah, kudos to these people for the amazing effort.
Infinity Engine is hard to work with. Even Beamdog had problems with it and they had all the code. Modders can only tweak couple of things, forget about new areas and bigger stuff.
Still, it encompasses the best core game mechanic of any Bioware engines. Big party, rules, spells, strategy, interface, all was lost with later engines. Seeing this project moving Infinite Engine game to Neverwiter one, is just wrong. It's like putting Dacia engine into Ferrari.
Modders can only tweak couple of things, forget about new areas and bigger stuff.
Huh? There are tons of BG2 mods adding new areas and quests, not to mention the bigger ones such as Check the Bodies and Region of Terror (and Darkest Day, but that one sucks major donkey balls )
Sure, it's not the most mod-friendly engine out there (definately a far cry from NWN's in this aspect), but it's not that bad either.

Lol, fawe, have you been hiding under a rock for the last 13 years? There are several big mods ( with entirely new or reused areas ), rule changes, engine tweaks, new animations, really well written npc's...Only thing they could not change was the hard-coded stuff, but for some things workarounds have been found .
Modding for it was never easy, but people really managed to do amazing things.
BTW, I don't find this appealing. I appreciate the effort, but like with the Icewind Dale NWN2 remake it simply doesn't have the "thing" that made Infinity Engine games great despite technical limitations.
Well I've only tried Check the Bodies and Shadows Over Soubar, and both were so filled with rehashed areas that I gave up on them. I did appreciate the work put into them, but they did not feel fresh, or even big, it looked just as something thrown over BG2. Really nothing compared to what can be done in Neverwinter engine for example.

Rechner, who says the bulk of work on this mod was done by him and a programmer, Shallina, tells me this project helped him get into the game industry. He worked at TimeGate Studios (Section until recently, and he was let go just before they shut down.

NWN2 was bad, but NWN1 was fucking terrible. No way it was better than NWN2. The OC anyway - can't speak as to multiplayer. In both cases the expansions were better than their respective base games, but again NWN2 has the edge over the original.
NWN2 was technicaly horrible (peformance was ghastly in some parts, esspecially for what it looked like) and had a much more complicated - but also capable - toolset, which resulted in a lower number of quality mods. There are still some really, really good ones, though.
As far as single-player goes, however, even NWN2's original campaign was head and shoulders above Aribeth's (or whatever that elven paladin lady was called) silly story from NWN1. And then there's Mask of the Betrayer - hands off the best thing with "Neverwinter" in title ever made.

guys worked for 7 years and hardly anyone is even going to try that.
I wonder why ?
Sure, it'll get some fame by articles and so on but I dont see people rushing to install it although it sounds really great !
Don't worry, I'm pretty sure many fans appreciate this and will try the mod as soon as possible (I too will play it, just not now - having limited free time sucks )

I can hardly wait for this. Given how much this took out of you, I assume you won't, but is there any chance of a Baldur's Gate 2 Reloaded?
Quote:
Probably not. While I'm sure I could now make something as large as BGR in NWN2 in less than half of the time it took me (6.5 years), I'm not sure I can justify it to my wife. In all seriousness though, I do look forward to having a life again and creating my own, original content.
Who can blame him . Hopefully he'll find a good job soon.
