Anyone here switched from 1920 to 2560? Im thinking about buying a Dell Ultrasharp U3011, but im not sure if its worth upgrading from a 1920x1080 27" lcd, regarding the picture.

Hehe thats why i ask... the g2420hd seems like a good value for the money though. Everything above 1920 gets so damn expensive. But if it the difference is really noticeable, then i guess its worth it.

Their difference is like night and day, compared my 27" U2711 side by side to a 27" 1080p Samsung. Its insane how much stuff fits to screen compared to 1080p. Also games looks so nice with IPS and 2560x1440. Prepare for slideshow in games, unless you have top end PC (680/7970 minimum).

Also, you are going to want to wait on 30'' TFT's right now. LG's new panel (that Dell, HP, etc use) has just released and is being released by Dell first soon. It'll be the first 30'' LED panel, so it's worth waiting for.
That, or wait for them to come out and buy the older 30'' as they'll be cheaper.

Not only that, but why invest in a 1440p monitor, when in a year or so, ultraHD is going to be the standard..

Dont care that much about even higher resolutions, i guess my 7970 will sweat enough on 2560 :O
Though LED sounds interesting... thanks, gotta research a bit.
Hm i also consider the u2713. Would be no upgrade in size, but if theres really that much difference regarding the pixels... its half the price and only 3 inch smaller.

With the new consoles supporting those resolutions and LG and Samsung pushing their tv's? Yeah, i can see affordable 4k tv's and monitors within a year, max 1.5.
Don't forget how quickly 1080p became the standard after HDready came out

I beg to differ: http://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey
clearly showing that 29,16% of the steam userbase runs at 1080p, doubt that those 1080p are 19inch monitors. Prolly around 22-23-24 inch more likely.
So stop pulling random shit out of your ass.
And don't come with bullshit that those numbers are only a small number, unless you can SHOW me proper numbers, i call on your bullshit.

Any background on how those unknown sites got their data? Can't find anything on that.
So i still call bullshit.
Any fuckface can put such a thing on their website, but without actual proof of how they obtained their data and about how many users they checked for this, this might just aswell be a chart you get for free with a happymeal..

And the last site you linked, tracks views on certain websites that report stats to them.
Who is saying anything about unique stats, plus people that visit those sites might be only a few certain groups within our society.
For me, when something becomes a standard, is when the majority of pre-build machines are being build with that.
Same with television, 1080p became standard, for me, when the network started to broadcast the important channels in 1080p.
But i guess everyone has their own definition of something becoming a standard.

I have a 30" and it's fantastic, but if LED versions are coming out soon, I'd wait for that.

Well we don't have 1080p exactly either, but 1080i (i mistyped).
But anyway, i really cba for a discussion about this now.
Let's just wait and see what the future brings us.
All i can hope for is that you are wrong (and this is not a bad thing in this case ) and we have 4kHD in 1 year en maybe 8k in 3-4

4K won't be standard for some time. It'll be available, but standard? No. It'll be there at a premium. Even 1080p isn't standard in TVs yet, there's still crap sold at 1366x768, 1024x768 and even some really retarded foreign resolutions.
For monitors, it'll be slightly faster than TVs, but we're still a couple of years away from it really being mainstream. Not even 2560x1440/1600 has really gone mainstream yet, that's only a very recent development.
Bravo, you just took statistics from the web, where 50% of users are laptop users, already fucking up any conclusion you want to draw for desktops. 1366x768, 1440x900, 1600x900 are all laptop resolutions you only see very rarely in monitors. They do exist, but they're just as rare as 4K is right now.
Next, there's 1280x800, which is older Android tablets and current phones, not found in any monitor as far as I know. Out goes another resolution.
1360x768 is clearly a wrongly reported 1366x768, out with another one.
That drills it down to 1280x1024, 1680x1050 and 1080p or better (some of which will also be tablets). 1680x1050 is phasing out rapidly. People still on 1280x1024 will never switch anyway, these are the kind of people still using a Pentium 3 w/ a 15" monitor (sadly, I know some of these ).
The "general" population is on a laptop, not a desktop. Those that are on desktops, fall in three categories most of the time:
- Gamers, who make up the biggest bulk of the 1680x1050 group
- The people described above, stuck on 15" for life
- The rest, who will have bought an inexpensive dual core system somewhere in the past 3 years along with a generic 20-22" 1080p monitors (because of the "widescreen!" "Full-HD" and all them marketing terms slapped on a 100 EUR generic TN piece of shit).

Hmm, this i find very odd. If you check most bigger resellers, you can see that most of them are selling for the most part 1080p screens...
http://www.mediamarkt.nl/mcs/productlist/Televisie,10259,346192.html?langId=-11
There are waaaaaaaaaaay more 1080p then lower, so when do you define standard then?
If the majority being sold is already 1080p, then for me, that's a standard

And you're looking at MM's online offering. In store they have many more and there's still 42-46 inch displays with less than 1080p. Below 40" the tables are turned, 1080p is outnumbered. Before you go "but who buys that" - more people than you may think. 37" is still 94cm, which is what you'll find in bedrooms a lot.
