I know LordHavoc (maker of the DP engine) and chat with him almost every day on IRC. His next big project is one that I've been looking forward to for a while, it's called Nexuiz. It's also built on the DP engine but has MANY improvements over it. Check it out at http://www.nexuiz.com/ .

On a seperate note, transfusion is one cool mod. Make sure to set r_sahdow_realtime_world to 1 in the console, and also r_shadow_gloss to 2. Very Doom3-esque Smile Peace,

I couldn't find any other fitting threads for this so here it goes.

Hello,

My name is Jason (Jace) Hall and some of you may know of me.

I have been contemplating the idea bringing Blood back and was wondering how people might feel about it or if they were interested in helping me to do it.

To be clear, I am thinking of bringing the ORIGINAL Blood game back as it was, with functionality alterations/enhancements that are similar but superior to ZDAEMON's. I would also make it work on all platforms, and not just PC. There are other things as well...

I have a very specific vision in mind for what I'd like to do, but before I go off and do it - I wanted to speak directly with the Blood community and see what the thoughts are.

My goal of course is for this all to be free, and all about gameplay and fun. You can rest assured that I have the resources to bring BLOOD back properly but like I said, I'm hoping to have the community participate in all this if it wants to so we can all do it together. This site is great and it would be great to see the Blood community grow!

What do you all think?

Jace

And before anyone asks, that's not some random nobody with more ideas than talent - he was the exec. producer on Blood and a load of other games as well: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0995727/

You should try engines that support OpenGL, try GzDoom.

IF they update the graphics and the engine to run on everything, i d be SOOO happy. I just recently told a friend who didnt know the game that this was the ultimate fun in multiplayer back in the day.

so IF jace actually does this i will openly weep tears of joy to fill a bathtub So Much Win

Code:
In terms of copyrights and ownership, Monolith sold the rights for Blood to GT Interactive. GTI was later acquired by Infogrames which has since been renamed to Atari. In recent years it seems that Warner Bros. Entertainment owns the Blood trademark

Warner smelling profit, might not want to give him the IP back.

Sadly, your tears will have to be those of heartbreaking disappointment...

It's basically going to be zDaemon. Still, it's Blood! Uncurdled! Very Happy GEROXE CRUO!

It can be modded in I guess, of course many of the ZDoom custom models and textures are a bit rough since they were created early on compared to the functions the game engine has now.
(I think it's still updated though.)

As long as the engine has the features and capabilities for it that is.

You could always run it through DOSbox Smile It's been a while since I even looked at Blood, so I don't know if those fan-made conversions into new engines (like OpenBlud or Blood32) ever took off.

I really enjoyed Blood *and* Blood 2, so I wouldn't usually be too averse to a Blood 3 ... but I wouldn't be all that hopeful if it was made in today's gaming era Sad

yeah. It s weird how todays devs dont get that they only have to improve on the strenghts of old games, not completely destroy the franchise and only hope for sales through the name. Blows my mind actually

Sadly it's due, in no small part, to today's GAMER. It's an entirely different generation and the average 360 gamer isn't interested in Blood and games like it ... so any developer trying to push that kind of game will just be ignored by publishers, or have the game radically altered in order to appeal to the dudebro demo Sad

I haven't nothing but fond memories of null modem LAN, playing Blood with my brother.. flatmate... best friend and HIS brother, until 6am. Then taking a break to go get frozen pizzas from Asda... and coming back to play some more grinhurt

yes, those were the days! Still have a lot of fond memories of lan parties with friends with blood, dn3d and shadowwarrior (and that other build engine game i cant remember the name of, where you could shoot chicken-arrows Very Happy). They also graced the game with a voodoo-patch, which made it even more enjoyable Very Happy

Should be cool. Maybe we can resurrect more old PC games... Kingpin anyone? Was probably my favorite MP FPS of all time. Bagman was the most fun you can have with your clothes on.

I just got an unusually short, one sentence e-mail from Atari, letting me know that given the current set of circumstances, they are choosing to decline to proceed.
