i played the game, it's really nice and close to the movie.
it's not that easy, you need a little bit of micr managment . but it is not as elite as warcraft 3.
so you can play it after a restless day of work, without brain aching.
i played isengard, and ents does good wood for fire.
i don't like the part with the community, do you by a rts to play this rpg style part ?

tell me about the tactical elements, are the archers as overpowered as IGN claimed them to be?
and what about cavalry vs. attacking pikemen from the rear? According to IGN attacking a unit from any direction is calculated the same (ie, attacking pikemen with cavalry from the rear is calculated the same way as if they were charging straight towards the sharp end of the pikes)
Yes, yes I'm back.
Somewhat.

And how is the performance on your system?
I heard that there are not a couple of thousands units on your screen, 'just' some hundreds. Maybe this game is also hyped too much?

Game works great.
Visuals are great, audio is nice,
Bottom line - quality release, it's Hoodlum - and they did a good job.

Did they really take out Co-op?
And the large unit battles were always assumed from the screenshots I guess, but it seems that is not the case in general.
Everyone was always worried about the Generals engine running too many units. Turns out our fears were correct, as slowdown is reported during the larger fights.
You also read about the unit cap being annoying sometimes, when you have to slaughter your own experienced troops to make room for next-tier units.

the archers are really strong, with isengard i nearly build only this, even to kill elven warriors
there is no difference if you attack front or not. cavalery for example just charge as a tank, it looks like they are running on enemies, smashing them.

i play on a 3,2 ghz pentium 4 with nvidia 9800 gt. on a 19" lcd screen. so i don 't care about performance.
i don't think that there are 1000 of units, coz it doesn t fit in the screen, but there is a lot of units, i don't care about the number. but i did not yet finished it. just played a few hours.

Well we all know that's a screen from when the game was being developed.
Is that EXACT scene in the game as well?

I dunno if that exact scene is in the game, but it looks ingame. All those troops in the back are background gayness i think, you can compare it to WW2 games, when you hear guns shooting in the distance and people screaming, as if there is a fight going on somewhere else. Just to make it look large scale.

it is not an ingame screen
you will see by yourself when you will play it. you can't be that away with the camera.

Do you guys figure there will be a 4-CD iso version eventually (for those of us without DVD burners)?
Yes, I am aware you can use a virtual drive.
