Read reviews of WCS2004 - it's essentially the same only upgraded. It's good.

It's a stand-alone product.
Physics are essentially the same so the rest is basically an revised career/tour option which incorporates all the realistic competitions and hoops professional snooker players have to go through in order to achieve success. Player likenesses and abilities are reflected now in a much better graphical engine and statistiscs which control how they play.
Commentary has taken a huge step back and is laughably bad - and rarely refelecting what is actually happening on the table. Although it does now have four commentators instead of the old two, inviting legends Steve Davis and John Parrot to get involved.
From what little I've played of the game it's improved largely and only taken step backs slightly. The opponents AI is also much more realistic and they miss shots more realistically too and run out of position (generally) properly rather than being perfect 99% of the time and then missing straight away.
I've not played enough to say anything other than good so far. It's the best snooker game I've played though - and there isn't many out there...

Have you tried iSnooker? It's a lot simpler, but I think it's more fun than WSC. I've only played 2004 and what pissed me off big time about it was that (IIRC) you had to press and hold space to get an overhead view of the table. Can you lock this view in 2005? Aiming is impossible without using the overhead view.

you have to press and hold LEFT-CTRL to have a table overview. Thats needed when its a long shot or a sharp angle, otherwise the first person view works ok.
game is great, frustrating at time (took me everything to beat Edbon dammit). Its realistic and very challenging. After 20+ hours of playing, im starting to get 50+ break points.

I suppose it depends on your point of view, I don't like overhead views as they are effectively cheating - the first person view you get is far from perfect but it's much more realistic and challenging. Like real life.
You can aim overhead if you wish, but you can't lock it down forever no. Besides I think that's missing the point.
BTW replays and camera angles are much improved in this version too.
