Id say this is the top 5 things Norwegians got to complain about... id say about 60-70% are not satisfied with our roads.

What do you think about your countries roads?

You'd have to go into some really backwater location to find a crappy road in Finland (and that's just because all the road crews who dare to delve into the deep, dark woods in the untamed wilderness get eaten by bears and wolves); all the areas with even light regular traffic are very well maintained.

Anyway, can you tell me the deal about Finland? I always tought Norway was the only European country with yellow lines to show where the traffic direction, but looking at some finnish roads in street view it seems like you have both yellow and white stripes, some places just white :/
Im guessing yellow road marking is pretty new in Finland, or?

The solid yellow lines are just to show where overtaking is not allowed (and there's also yellow dotted lines, those always appear just before the solid ones to act as an early warning to gtfo back to your own lane Razz).

The roads are fine here...but 5 minutes south I can literally cross the border and instantly know that I'm in Belgium just from the road quality, horrible over there Smile

Here a solid white line indicates no overtaking btw; dashed line means it's allowed. Same principle applies to switching lanes on the freeway; lots of places where the cars driving onto the freeway are free to change lanes to the left, but you're not allowed to go to that most-right lane - that's indicated by double lines, where the line on "your" lane indicates what you're allowed to do (or not) Smile

NJ has some of the most complicated roads I've ever driven on in my life. They say if you can drive good here, you can drive great anywhere

Its like that in pretty much every european country.

We can even get questions about driving in Sweden and Denmark on our theoretical exam.
Its all about what you are used to, but I think its nice to have different colors to separate if the traffic is moving in the same direction or not. Can't link to a study that claims it leads to less accidents but our brain reacts pretty fast to a strong color Wink

The soil is shit in estonia, temperature changes too and maintenance is bad. After this years winter the roads have been especially poor. riddled with holes and plenty of people have wrecked their cars. Not sure if we could build them better or thats the way it is in our climate.
