Warner Bros. Pictures has unveiled the chilling first trailer for director Scott Cooper's crime drama "Black Mass" opening in cinemas September 18th. Benedict Cumberbatch, Kevin Bacon, Dakota Johnson, Jesse Plemons, Corey Stoll, Rory Cochrane, Sienna Miller and Adam Scott also star.
Set in South Boston in the 1970s, Joel Edgerton plays FBI Agent John Connolly who persuades Irish mobster James 'Whitey' Bulger (Johnny Depp) to collaborate with the FBI and eliminate a common enemy: the Italian mob. This unholy alliance spiraled out of control, Whitey evading law enforcement and consolidating his power to become utterly ruthless.

This looks amazing, really hyped for this now. Sometimes it's easy to forget that Johnny Depp is more than just a goofball playing goofball roles, he was *fantastic* as Donnie Brasco after all.
Saw it in theaters. Honestly it was really underwhelming. All the best intense scenes were shown in the trailers. I mean I guess you can't have every mobster/gangster movie end up with tons of blood shed but for the most part, you just saw some guy gradually go downhill.

Basically this. Good production value and goodish acting (very good Depp though), but the story and storytelling just make a odd paced (and not in a good way) movie that fails to gain momentum.
Not a theatre-grade movie. A nice release with good audio and video on your TV for an okay movie night.
