BMW but that new Frontgrill design looks phenomenally idiotic.
But both cars have a very different profile. The Benz certainly has more volume.
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."

The BMW looks like any BMW from the last 10-15 years. I voted for the AMG since the it looks both sleek and roomy in combination with that cool little spoiler at the back. Both are grey though which is boring. Besides, I'm more interested in the performance, how comfy it is to sit in and drive for any period of time, good the handling is etc.

Yeah, that front grill looks really wrong/stupid. Besides, it's a BMW and it looks like most BMW's from the last 10-15 years.

Dear lords of Kobol, modern BMW grills are ridiculously bad. Not a fan of the station-style M either.

Tbh 306 hp dont really need a big spoiler to create downforce
I initially disliked the new g22 too but the g26 looks better and with the dark front it actually looks quite nice imho.

Are you trying to convince yourself to splosh out (car loan) for a brand new beamer?

To be honest my company lease is running out and I need to replace my S4 with something a bit more comfortable (more extras). ~350PS is nice, but I can live with less PS if it means that I can add more extras to the car (there are still some limitations on what I can pick).
The CLA would've been basically kitted with every single available extra. With the 430d gran coupé, it's not even sure if it will be released (maybe july?) and if the prices don't change, it will definitely be closer to barebones than the CLA

This is tough because both the cars have something that puts me off a bit in terms of design. The Merc looks relatively tame and station wagon-y (too much for my tastes, I'd just go with a SUV instead), whereas the BMW has a remarkably aggressive style that the daft new face has amplified to the point that it now looks like it was borrowed from the Mad Max universe. I'd still definitely choose the latter though

I would definitely get the panamericana grill (featured on the CLA 45) so that the front looks more refined
I just saw a regular CLA Shooting Brake today. I couldn't take a proper look as it was quite late, but even though it should be quite similar from the dimensions it looked tiny compared to my Audi and I have no fucking clue why

Obviously I could imagine a shooting brake variant of the 4 to look quite nice! But that might be just my german side

If you don't need the boot space then I do think the BMW looks nicer, but at my point in life i'd get the AMG/Merc as I want space (plus it's faster)

I need to put the stroller somewhere. It's already tight in the S4 and I'll have to detach it's tires everytime I put it into the trunk The CLA seems to have much more boot space, but also less room inside the car due to a shorter wheelbase.
But I already had the predecessor, the F36 and the bootspace was good for regular usage.

Other than the grill, they both look pretty much like the same generic, wine drinking soccer mom sports station wagon, to me
If I couldn't see the front and asked I would go: A Lexus? Mercedes? BMW? Audi? I dunno one of those same-same 'power mom' cars.
You know? It has that 'upper middle management job' look written all over it.
Maybe it's my outlook? If I was spending that much on a car, I wouldn't want it to blend in with every other car if I went to fancy whole foods with that look of "I bet that gets groceries and baby seats home damn fast!"
That much money it would be my fun-time car. That much money for a daily driver seems insane to me. For $40k-50k myself to throw at a car, Id have a resto mod like this in my driveway:
Spoiler: | |
And maybe its my age, all luxury 4 door sports cars in the last 6-7 or so years seem to copy of each others homework and all blend into the same thing to me... the same overall copy-paste shape that's sporty looking enough to convey its sporty(ish), but smooth and general public businessman sensible so it's not 'too aggressive' of a look for power moms.
Even though I am a sort of car guy (well muscle car geek, just lack the money) I drive a 1997 Jeep...so take my opinion with a grain of salt. If I'm throwing down 1/4 of a houses cost on a car, it better not be some run of the mill one. As new car prices are insane to me. I dont think Id ever buy a new car myself.

In the USA. Florida.
Didnt think about that being a factor in why it's not unusual for me (not sure why I didn't factor that) but cars like that are in every 3rd driveway here in upper middle class neighborhoods.
I see so many damn BMW x5's, or Mercedes-Benz GLE they are like toyota corollas..lol.
I dont live in a upper middle class area. But on the fringe of one, that morphs into doctor/lawyer/whatever money area. And its america, most families with a comfortable margin of expendable income want some sort of status symbol to show they are doing well
Drive down any upper middle class neighborhood here, and hatchback 4 door like a BMW, Mercedes, Audi, AMG, Lexus are all over the place. I could drive down to the 'fancy' grocery store chain down the road called Publix and probably count 30 of them on a busy day...well wouldn't say Publix is fancy high class..but its a normal grocery store chain made with the atmosphere where moms that get nails done, and drink wine while at a book club type shop at. Where middle class 'Karen's' shop to avoid the 'REAL middle class people' type thing.

Merc on outside, Beemer on inside. Modern beemers look so plasticky. Don't like the looks of Merc dash. If I had to choose, I wouldn't pick either, but if I really had to, probably the Merc.
