And don't forget that games now launch directly when you start them through Steam. Doesn't take away the fact that uPlay is one of the most useless applications available when you already have Steam, but well, at least it works pretty well now (compared to POS called Origin).

Nope still downloads installer first and then you install.
At least speed trough uplay increased a lot.

yeah but i mean you can always download the installer through uplay, right? i remember ubisoft USED to provide a limited 30-day downloader for teh game, and then you had to pay a fee to get the downloader again if you did not keep the install files...

No such thing. Installer is always available for downloading.

im going by that. i dont have many uplay games, so if that changed then i wouldnt know.
edit:
did some further digging.. sounds like they have a weird system... if you buy something through uplay, you can download through uplay, if you buy something through the ubistore, you have to download the game with the downloader, launch it, sign in to uplay, and then add your cd key to tie it to your account. damn if thats not an ass-backwards approach... so HOPEFULLY once a ubi store game is added to your account, you can then download THROUGH uplay, but if you havent added it to your account through uplay, you have 30 days to download the game.

Uplay 3.0 has redeem key in its new features so this is not a problem anymore. And i have games brought 1 year ago and i can still download them (downloaded HAWX 2 like 10 times since i got it)

I guess this 30 days period is for the downloaders that are not related to uplay client.
Third party download links with some launcher as downloader (like the ones for Far Cry 3, AC3)
If you have the game in Uplay client you can download when ever you want.

The issue remains with the games that are NOT in Uplay client. Right now i have key for Beyond Good and Evil, but i cannot download it.... as its not i Uplay and download links expired. The only way to get it is....  Spoiler: | exactly torrent/isodemo |

You can also view content for unreleased games though I don't know if that's intended or a oversight, for Watch Dogs there's currently a (stealth) car that can be unlocked and for Splinter Cell Blacklist there's some suits.

I wished uplay made a rehash of installed games and download the game files, not the installer, otherwise you have to reinstall games every time you reinstall the OS. I used to save registry entries to get uplay to recognize the games, but it´s a pain in the ass really. One of the reason I delete the game from uplay once I beat it.
