Use a USB stick to create a recovery partition from another computer (Windows 8 ) if you have access to one, otherwise from another computer (or similar.) put the Windows 8 disc/iso files on that (or a separate USB) and boot from said USB instead of using a DVD.
(8.1 with Update 1 can be used now since the MSDN iso files are available.)
Can't tell you much about the chances of recovering the existing data but you could always swap in the HDD into another computer and check it from there though if the MBR is damaged you might need recovery programs to restore (part of) the existing files.
(Recuva for example although there are probably better alternatives.)
Here's a noob-tip from me.
Boot using a USB with something like ubuntu, then change the drive letter from E: to C: using software (can't remember which).
I'm great at this... (not really, I stole this from Beckman).
None of my friends use windows 8. Looks like I have to re-download and fix it.
For now, I have installed windows 7 on back up drive. However I'm not able to install any drivers.
Any way to install network driver alone? So that I can download it.
Thanks!
Edit: can anybody link D945GCNL and D945GCPE ethernet driver?
Official site doesn't work anymore.
The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.
Use Ubuntu Live/WinPE from USB and copy your important files to the safe place. Then install your Windows again. Ubuntu should see your Windows drive even without a manual mount.
