Here it finally is!

Link

A great mod made by killap, aka "The Bear Dude" for original Fallout 2 with lots of bugfixes and added content. The aim of this mod was to add all the content that didn't quite made it into the game when it came out, and this mod does that perfectly.

And this is not an april fools joke.

I know that this isn't a release, but I really love fallout 1 & 2 and I thought that I should share this info with you guys.[/url]

Nice! Definitely grabbing this. Have to dig out my old F2 disc now. It's been a while since it's seen the light of day.

I'd still like to see a Fallout done in the NWN style though.

Strictly this belongs in the classic section, though I'll leave it here as I believe more people will notice it.
Fallout 2 is one of my personal favorites, and I'll look forward to playing it again - I play it once a year at least

Mods claiming to add "what was left out" usually ruin the original experience, few actually better a game. How's this one?

I played the earlier release and some of the new locations were a bit rough around the edges then, but it should be much better now. And of course it's worth getting for the bug fixes alone - you could skip all the new areas if you wanted.

What I'm not a fan of though is that the game is now trying to "phone home" after the RP 2.0 patch....

Easily blocked of course. But I still don't like it.

It sucks.

Full of player killers who don't know shit about true roleplaying and just go around killing everyone with their uber characters. In five-six hours I've met 2 (TWO) people who could speak english: one that complained about the same things, and the other which thought the game was something similar to world of warcraft (go figure Very Happy ).

Needless to say, I stopped playing right there - it has the potential to be awesome, especially with the factions and all that, but the community is just shitty at best.

Damn I played this for something like 5 hours straight today. Being able to play it at higher resolutions totally saved this game.

I can't get it to run in windowed mode under Win7 x64. Something about failed initialization of input device. I get a crash at launch.

There's a new verson, 2.2b, with important fixes btw.

While this restoration project is brilliant, I had to stop playing it. It's a blast to play F2 again with a lot of the content that was removed from the original game. And it's great to be able to play it at a properly scaled resolution. But, fuck. There are too many quest stopping bugs. First the shaman in the primitive tribe. You couldn't talk to him which broke that whole quest line. Sure, there was a patch afterward but it only works if you apply it BEFORE you visit the tribe. So I lost quite a bit of time having to go back to a previous save and redoing quite a bit. So I started saving on a new save before I entered any new area or traveling. I get to Modoc. I've got a save from before I left and one from right at the start. I go through several different quests. I talk to all the people looking for the watch. I blow up the shitter. I find the watch. I go back to give it to the friend and....fuck, just like the shaman I can't talk to the guy. I check again and, there's a new patch. It fixes the problem. And once again, you have to apply the patch BEFORE you visit the area for the first time. Fuck that. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me. It won't happen a third time. It's a great effort on the creator(s) part. But if you're the type of person that likes to try to complete everything as they go along it's too fucking buggy. I'm not going to go back another hour or two to before the town, fight my way across the map again, and do all those fucking quests again just for another bug to pop up and make it happen again.

It sure the hell was fun while it lasted though!

I call BS. Did you even try it? I play it on a cheapo Olevia 32" 720p TV and it looks fine. If you set the resolution to match your monitor's native res it looks pretty decent. Nowhere near as blocky as something like Diablo II looks.

After playing it for a long time back when it came out, I never got the random whale encounter until the other day. It does nothing for you but it was cool to finally see one of the easter eggs. Found the one from the Goonies too but I wasn't quick enough smacking print screen.

Cool! Just make sure you get any available patches as, for some reason, the patches won't fix the problem if you've already visited that area.

question for those who've played both unoffical patch and restoration project versions,

which do you prefer? i've only completed the game with the unofficial patch, wondering if its worth playing the restored content or is it just minor stuff.
