Dunno about other places, but Norwegians are divided into two groups mentally; drivers and cyclists when in traffic. Kinda idiotic, because there cyclists probably have cars etc, but drivers HATE cyclists and the other way around. Im of course talking about these wannabe pro cyclists in shorts that think they are in tour-de france -.- Same deal where you live?

Look at this fucking asshole cyclist: http://www.dagbladet.no/2013/06/20/nyheter/trafikk/innenriks/syklister/bilister/27801914/ (video)

And notice there is a cyclist field to the right other people are able to use...

Same here, but it seems to me that at least the "pro" ones are being more considerate. Just the other day I was stuck driving behind a couple that couldn't possibly ride further from a curb without actually being in the middle of the lane. I take time, slow down to their speed, making sure they are aware of me and the fact that I'm not being pushy or anything like that. But they still don't give a fuck. Annoying, selfish, unsafe and stupid.

It's just part of living in a what I consider overpopulated area. I live in the burbs of Chicago and traffic etc. is still a pain in the ass. I don't even drive to Chicago or anywhere near unless I really have to. It's insane. I'm stating the obvious here, but the more people are clamped together, they more inconsiderate they get. When I moved to Michigan, WI I felt like I was in heaven. Less populated city equals better, kinder people. You can see that in supermarkets, on the streets, in the parks, everywhere.

I was kinda hoping he'd get run over repeatedly while watching that video. Even stopping and arguing with the guy.. how do you defend being an asshole? Doesn't matter that you're going as fast as the rest of the traffic, you're on a bicycle, you belong on the bicycle lane when available.. Coming from someone who does not have a car, only a bicycle.

The cyclist is really a dick here. There is a cycle lane right next to him, but he is driving in the car lane. Isn't that illegal? Plus it's stupid and dangerous.

@h4wkeye: Im pretty sure its not legal, yet he claims he is allowed to drive there several times (like a know it all kid Laughing ) And with a really annoying accent Crying or Very sad
@Airbag: Good to hear that from a Hollander Very Happy NL is the ultimate bike loving country.

Anyways, I like the cyclist lanes way better in Denmark... they are wider and BLUE, so impossible to miss.

It's illegal to drive a bicycle on the sidewalk in Serbia. Just recently a guy was fined for it. I think it was 50 euros.

Evil or Very Mad

On a serious note though, here we have dedicated cyclist lanes almost everywhere and it is technically illegal to be on the road. In most cases, cyclists stick to those lanes, but as a driver you still gotta be careful since you're ALWAYS at fault if you hit one (more powerful vehicle), even if they're the ones not respecting lights and such.

However, where I live (far south) we get a lot of those wannabe pro cyclists you describe, like that dickhead in the video. They like to train here, because we've got a lot of hills, good roads and relatively quiet ones at that. They do all the things you describe like taking up an entire fucking lane as if they own the road.

More dangerously though, there's some areas with poor visibility (due to a nasty turn) where they've made blocks to make the road too narrow for more than one car to pass through; mostly at the edges of small towns. Because the turn is quite nasty, these motherfuckers rather than sticking to the bicycle lane, they shoot onto the main road between those blocks. At these narrow bits, the cars coming OUT of town get precedence over the ones going INTO town.

There's one in particular I have to go through when I visit my grandfather, where the cyclists are coming downhill. These IDIOTS shoot onto the main road at what's easily 60 Kph (limit's 50 there, so fuck that already) and I've almost hit some so many times. And even though A) they should remain in their bicycle lane and B) I've got precedence according to all the fucking signs, I'd still be at fault if I actually did hit one of these fuckers.

And the funniest part of all? I know some of these dudes. And you wouldn't believe how much they rage when there's a couple of school kids taking up a little more space than the bicycle lanes.

I have absolutely 0 respect for cyclists left and all the cyclists who compete (amateur or pro, I don't care) can go fuck themselves, including the cunts that compete in the Tour de France (because some of them train here too - although maybe I should say "test out the new epo" Cool Face). I cycled myself for well over 15 years but I never did dumb shit like that.

Well, its not all black and white. An example: woman with stroller one the sidewalk, then comes a wannabe pro cyclist at 40 km/h... catch my drift? Wink

The ideal thing would be for them to slow down, and its still legal in Norway and most of the world afaik for cyclist to use the sidewalk...

Nope. Illegal here, the UK, Belgium, Germany and I suspect most of the world has the same law in fact. Only exception usually is children under the age of 8 or 9, they are allowed, but for everyone else it's illegal.

Last I checked it was a 50 EUR fine here Razz

I hear motorcyclists hate drivers for pretty much the same reason. Drivers tend to be blind to motorcycles in traffic, which is why a lot of motorcycle accidents happen from a driver

a) Driving too close to a motorcycle (not keeping distance) = instadeath to an MC-driver
b) "Not noticing" that there is a motorcycle in the path and running into it = hospital or death to an MC-driver ("A motorcycle is probably not as fast as a car, is it?!?")

I read an MC-forum about a guy who was ran into by cars that didn't stop at stop signs 5 times (!) in his MC-driving career (20 years). I'm not sure what to be more amazed at, that he's still alive and driving, or that car drivers are that careless with motorcyclists. "LOL! It's just a human I don't know and care about, and I'm safe in my metal box, he isn't LOL!"

The wannabe pro's are the worst as cyclists. Think they can do whatever. And that is coming from someone who bikes all the time.

I don't find it that annoying if they are in traffic and stick to the right side of the road (or at traffic lights in front of the cars... SAFETY!!!). It can be very dangerous on the actual bike lanes with elderly people and mostly idiots. But you should never block traffic. Especially not like that cunt on the video.

It is actually more dangerous here in Sweden (where I live) to bike on the bike lanes. Pedestrians around here just don't give a flying fuck about bikers and walk wherever they want, if you ring they hardly even budge and want you to squeeze trough without any effort of them.

So yup I whine about this behaviour, since I'm used of a bit more cooperation in Belgium tbh. Then again might be because there isn't much of a biking culture here. Hell, they got more of a walk with the bike culture, every little hill they step off their bike Laughing

Life on the street, a very vicious circle

Very Happy

We don't even have dedicated lanes for cyclists here, so you can imagine how dangerous the whole road ecosystem is, considering our crazy drivers and streets full of bumps 'n holes. Surprisingly there aren't many accidents, but that's only because almost nobody uses the bike here (and who actually does, stays away from the main roads).

Do those people also tell you about how motorcyclists tend to squeeze into places just because they can? Or that they often just accelerate full speed (which is much faster than most cars), being careless themselves? No, sorry, motorcyclists are just as bad as some drivers. And frankly, car drivers may not see motorcyclists sometimes, but when it comes to speeding motorcyclists are terrible and that does make it even harder to spot them. Anyone who buys a sport bike does so for the thrill and they are the ones disregarding the rules most often. That place I mentioned about above? Sport bikes pull the same shit as cyclists there.

The problem with cyclists is that they are totally careless. I recently read that around half of cyclist accidents are their faults (over where i live) and when looking how some of them drive it understandable why. Half of them are in a world of their own listening to music, not signaling anything, riding drunk, without lights at night, doing a million kph in pedestrian zones and going over red lights. Very few of them have any survival instinct. If i'm waiting at a pedestrian crossing and see a guy on the phone driving fast towards me I wait even if it's my way... But some people how this "It's my right of way" mentality and do some really crazy shit.

Just 2 days ago a girl riding on a bike lane suddenly decided she'll go on the opposite side of the road without any kind of signal. She just turned about 5 m - 10m infront of me while i was doing around 50. I slammed on the brakes and actually got out of my car to basically shout all the swear words i know at her... I don't think she even noticed since she had her earplugs on.

Until 3 years ago, I was only a cyclist - but just a regular guy on a bike nothing more. I would make room for cars to pass by if needed, I'd look three times before crossing the road and I'd be careful as much as possible. I got hit by a car when I was 12 (and he was at fault) so I learned to be careful - especially since there's a LOT of lousy drivers around and a cyclist is pretty vulnerable.

From my point of view, I think people are idiots full stop - no matter what vehicle they drive or sit on - but those "pro cyclists" are definitely the worst and don't give a fuck about traffic rules. They go on the road, block cars, act violent if people complain, etc.

Motor cyclists come a close second: they will squeeze through every hole they can, often making cars of the opposite direction have a heart attack, speed up to insane speeds to overtake, they make tons of noise, zig zag through traffic, squeeze through gaps you leave between the car in front of you and yourself (so please spare the 'safe breaking distance' crap - they're the ones that force themselves in there).

In Belgium, groups of >10 bikers (could be 12 or 14, don't shoot me on the number), driving on the roads, in packs of 2 by x have priority over cars. So, they don't have to give priority to cars coming from the right, they don't have to break the pack when reaching a red stoplight etc.

No problem when they are with 20, but a group of 1000, hilarious...

The smartest thing would be banning cycles, no more idiots on the roads and one less thing to look out for when driving.

Banning cycles and about 2/3 of car drivers should fix the transport issue.

I almost hit a cyclist last Tuesday. He was riding in the middle of the lane and he was FUCKING TALKING ON HIS CELLPHONE. When i honked he freaked out and fell in front of my car. Luckily i had enough time to brake and nothing happened. He got up quickly and started swearing. I wanted to get out of the car and beat the shit out of him, but i managed not to and kept going.

Most of the cyclists think they own the road. And i hate it most when they cross the road at crosswalks riding their bikes. That drives me nuts!
