Hey, I made a post yesterday in the HTC one thread wondering some stuff but now I'm stuck between choosing from HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4. I really like the design of the HTC One and a lot of it appeals to me but I've heard of problems with battery and heat buildup as well as the fact that this is a phone I wanna keep for minimum 2 years, I don't plan on swapping anytime soon, which means that a non-removable battery is a bit of a problem.
On the other hand there is the Galaxy S4 which does impress me to some extent but I just don't seem to have the heart for it as I have for the HTC One. What really draws me to this phone right now is a special offer that they have on the phone. If I get the S4 it will be 275 euros cheaper than the HTC One which is a lot of money for me as I am a student. So economically the S4 is much better for me and it probably won't disappoint me much but for some reason my heart is really in it for the HTC One but I feel like it might have been hyped up and that I'm really undervaluing how good the S4 is.
I'm not really a techie so that's why I'm asking you guys so I can get some good opinions and hard facts, but out of of these two, which one would you pick? Also taking in account that I can get the S4 much cheaper than the HTC One.

htc one no doubt mostly for build quality.

who gives a fuck what it looks like, its about is it capable of performing with what you want to do with it..
how can anyone want to spend money on build quality alone... if my motherboard was built on lower quality pcb but would not falter and had better capacitors than a board that the pcb was made of kevlar for lack of breaking from bending possibilites with shitty 3yr max capacitors,.,. I know what id go for.. look after your phones and you wont worry about its general build quality..stop droping them ffs. |

I can only speak for s4 build quality which is only tiny bit better than s3/note2. it is still all plastic and easy to scratch bezel.
htc one have better materials like rubber/aluminium

The choice is entirely up to which features are most important to you. I'd choose the HTC One simply because I like the later sense versions AND it's a much sturdier build with high quality oozing over it. It comes with truly great pro head phones and simply sounds better.
On the other hand the S4 is clocked 200MHz higher (which is kind of moot since all you have to do is edit a file or download setcpu or similar), have a much better camera (except in dark environments where it fails miserably), changeable battery, mini-SDHX slot (although with 32GB/64GB internal storage in both I don't see that as a selling point at all). Even though it is clocked faster it lags at certain points. It's also stuffed full of useless Samsung gimmick apps that most people will never use and delete.
I guess it simply comes down to personal fancy and brand-bias.
I've had both HTC and Samsung and I liked both (although they were of different generations so not directly comparable).
Go to a store, check out both if you can (powered on) and get some hands-on experience. Or find friends which own a One and S4 and try them out.
Or flip a coin.
They're basically equally capable with minor advantages and disadvantages for each model.

actually htc one's aluminum case scratches/dents extremely easy if you drop, don't even need a high drop. and if this horrible thing happens to you, good luck trying to fix it. grass is not always greener...
at this point i would wait for google editions of both phones to come out before making any decisions, fuck bloat!

Seems like an easy choice to me. There's absolutely no way the difference is 275 euros worth, no matter which one you choose.

I have to sadly agree with Mister_s on that point, NO other similar phone is worth an extra €275,-...

Just get S4 then and buy uag or otterbox defender for it. It will be indestructible in otterbox

It's a special campaign for midsummer + i get a student discount so it gets a lot cheaper. I'm still undecided on this but i'm leaning towards S4 as the price is really good..

Beautiful design? Srsly.
Nokia has beautiful design, HTC One is just bulky and ugly, actually it reminds me of iphone design, which I never liked (too 'sharp' imo).
Lumia 925 looks sexy as hell ^^

The HTC One looks fugly, especially compared to the One X. I like the dual speakers in front though.

It seems like a no-brainer to me. Both phones are great, just buy the cheapest, so the S4 in your case.
