Hey guys,

I search "dxtory" in the forums and the only hit so far was this here...

http://www.nfohump.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=77357

However I have issues and I can't find help on the interwebs, so maybe anyone here can help out.

I bought the latest DxTory software for free-fifty Dollars, then blocked all *.exe from the Windows Firewall (in- and outbound traffic).

My issues are:

1. although I set the framerate to 30 fps, records are capped at 20 fps.
2. DxTory writes 3 almost identical files with different filenames (same length though)

And no, I don't use RawCap, I use normal Filecap using 1 Avi file (at least that's what I want).

Anyone else notice this behavior?

Or maybe this bullshit behavior is part of the DxTory DRM? I don't know...

Thanks for all the meaningful, and I mean only the meaningful, answers in advance.

Cheers,
Paxsali.

I have 2.0.120 and no problems with it. I forgot but believe it was scene rls
In fact I'm very happy, its the only program that lets record me emulator footage without murdering performance.
Mostly using default settings here, be sure to enable 2 processing threads, dxtory video codec. Maybe its your version, try to get another one and see what happens

That is indeed really odd Neutral
I hope that it's some sort of DRM you are facing, because i haven't seen anything above 2.0.122 on the sites that i use for these kind of things.

Found this on their board as reply to someone having 20fps cap:

Quote:
Dxtory does not handle a DirectShow.
It seems that AVer MediaCenter is DirectShow.

You trying to record DirectShow?
Because looking at the filename, i see you are trying to record from Mediaplayer classic.

I mean the output from MPC is DirectShow maybe or whatever program you are using, DXTory can't record that.

Quote:
Media Player Classic is primarily based on the DirectShow architecture and therefore automatically uses installed DirectShow decoding filters. For instance, after the open source DirectShow decoding filter ffdshow has been installed, fast and high quality decoding and postprocessing of the MPEG-4 ASP, H.264, and Flash Video formats is available in MPC. MPC-HC can play videos in these formats directly without ffdshow.
MPC provides DXVA support for newer Intel, NVIDIA and ATI video cards when using an H.264 or VC-1 codec. This provides hardware-acceleration for playback.
In addition to DirectShow, MPC can also use the QuickTime, RealPlayer, and SHOUTcast codecs and filters (if installed on the computer) to play their native files.[2] MPC can use an INI file in its application folder.[3]

From wiki, so there you go, that's your problem.

Maybe the hotkey to start/stop recording is double mapped in mpc or dxtory and causes this.
If you were always using the same hotkey, try changing it.

btw, the forum reply that i got was already quite old, so maybe they did manage to record DirectShow, but only the way it currently does.
Because we don't see the "VIDEO20" like you mention.

It's the sole fact that those programs use DirectShow as output and dxtory has problems recording that.
So just get yourself fraps, since your recording a video output only anyway.

Those 2 output an image on your PC right after it's been recorded to that device.
That's what you are recording right?
And i presume that only their software can play the files on there?

Nope. Nope. Nope. Too many false assumptions.

I use my AverMedia Software to get the PS3 screen & audio on my PC screen, then I use fraps or Dxtory (if it would work properly) to capture the PS3 screen & audio in high quality, because otherwise I cannot capture directly from PS3 HDMI because of HDCP.

The other solution is not use HDMI at all, but Composite. That works with my AverMedia LGP, but the quality is very poor compared to HDMI + Fraps.

The Composite cable captures are blurry and sometimes look like (de-)interlaced input, the HDMI captures look perfect, but fraps is a pain in the abdomen... (4Gb file-limit, manual encoding, ...)

Well that was kinda what i meant, just didn't had the correct words for it.
But yeah, the output that the AverMedia is providing on your PC is using DirectShow, that's why DXTory is causing issues with recording, since it's not fully supported.
You could try to use Mirillis Action, but otherwise just use fraps.
Yes the manually encoding is a pain in the ass, but you got some control over the footage then and can edit way easier.
The 4GB limit is something you can disable yourself by unticking it.

I would personally use fraps and then edit in Adobe Premiere pro.
