|
 |
Ok! I really want a good DVD burner with a speed of no less than 8X. I want it to support all the medias and a good price will be nice.
I know that Philips recently released a 16X DVD burner, but I couldn't find it anywhere or its price.
Please suggest a good DVD burner and a link would be appreciated.

I recently read a review about dvd burner in a computer mag. And they said that the NEC ND-2510A and the LGGSA-4120B are both not bad. They both can write DL media, but only the NEC can change the book type field.
If you dont need the DL feature i would recommend the Plextor PX-712A or the Phillips DVDRW824K.

Its a new laser technology. These lasers are blue and not red like the ones currently used. These drives will have more capacity, i read something about 50GB. But dont ask me how this technology works.

It burns onto multiple layers. Yes a disc can hold about 50GB of storage I believe. There is a Panasonic drive coming out this month I believe, if you wait a month or two, your looking at $200 USD for a drive.

Wow this blu-ray thing is great! But it's pretty costly and i think not all the medias/software will support it as of now.
I think I'm gonna go for the NEC.
Thanks a lot for the help everyone.

Quote: | How fast can you record a Blu-ray Disc?
According to the Blu-ray Disc v1.0 specification, 1x speed will require a 36Mbps data transfer rate, which means it will take about 1 hour and 40 minutes to record 27GB. The Blu-ray Disc Founders are currently working on the v2.0 specification, which will support 2x speed to cut the time it takes to copy content from one disc to another in half. In the future, the data transfer rate is expected to be raised to 8x or more. |
Writing is usually slower then Reading so it wont be slow at all, especially at its transfer rate! I mean thats acouple megs a second there... No load times at all!

I dont know what you are talking about its not meant to be for home use. Everything eventually ends up in our homes. Its like gates saying people will never need more than 640kb of ram.

The first cd-writers did cost more then these blu-ray writers. I remember the very first pioneer writer cost about $2500 and a cd $50. But you could use this writer for mastering, maybe thats the reason for the high price.

I've got a Liteon 8x DVD burner.. and I've owned many Liteon cd burners.. and they've never failed me..
My first 2 DVD Burners though were both LG (4x and 8x) and both died on me during warrenty.. I won't recommend and a cheap ass LG to anyone.

Exon -> There is no need to buy a blueray burner if you wan't to backup unless blueray drives can burn DVD-/+r discs because all dvd-r releases are release for burning on dvd discs and not blueray same with dvd games.
