In 2291, in an attempt to control violence among deep-space miners, the New Earth Government legalized no-holds-barred fighting. Liandri Mining Corporation working with the NEG established a series of leagues and bloody public exhibitions. The fight's popularity grew with their brutality. Soon, Liandri discovered that the public matches were their most profitable enterprise. The professional league was formed. A cabal of the most violent and skilled warriors in known space, selected to fight in a Grand Tournament. Now it is 2341, fifty years have passed since the founding of Deathmatch. Profits from the tournament number in the hundreds of billions. You have been selected to fight in the Professional League by the Liandri Rules Board. Your strength and brutality are legendary. The time has come to prove you are the best. To crush your enemies. To win the tournament.
Unreal Tournament's got it all: a ton of astonishing combat arenas located in environments beyond imagination, from lush alien planets to deep space bases to modern military installations and more; a bone-shuddering arsenal of gib-inducing weaponry, including rocket launchers, pistols and bizarre alien designed armaments; brain-melting modes of play for individuals and teams; unbelievably deadly computer controlled Bots; and a slew of other features that made Unreal Tournament one of the best selling and most loved games of 1999, launching a legendary multiplayer franchise and community that both still thrive today.

Does this game really require introduction? It's Unreal Tournament, arguably the best PC-FPS ever! (I say arguably, but if anyone argues with me; they're automatically wrong. Deal with it or meet me on Deck 16 and we'll settle it like gamers!) This game was, and still is, the best example of how to pull of a perfect multiplayer shooter. Encompassing every kind of game-mode you could want, from all out slaughter to objective-based teamplay -- and best of all; no cracks needed and free online play which is still live TODAY!
Epic game, loved it..maps were amazing...infinity/10...good times while playing this game..seeing this thread made me get this game >><<, are people still playing this game? I know there is more people playing ut2004 then utIII
I used to love playing in Morpheus with Instagib on. I used to own these bots in godlike with my superb accuracy .Although I never had any real multiplayer experience in the old UT since we had crappy 56Ks at that time. :/
Ahhh. Now you are talking. I have the original, unopened and shrink wrapped copy of this classic. UT2k4 has a very special 7 gigs or so reserved on my HD and gets ample play time. UT3, I've played it four months straight after its release, got to top 10 in warfare, and quit. Since last week I'm officially back.
Some of those soundtracks you guys posted send chills down spine till this day. It's nice to see some of them in UT3.
Q3 "pwns" in its own very special way, but it just doesn't hold water to UT. That might be just an opinion, but the fact is that the quality and amout of the mods, maps and mutators made for UT is just absurd.
Air Buccaneers? Fraghouse Invasion / Monster Madness? Any fans?
I've got very powerful memories from the UT-era and I couldn't even begin to count the hours I've put into the game over the years. It will forever be in my top10 of favourite games - and in the #1 spot for favourite FPS
Aye!! I used to have an app back in high school called "ScreamTracker 3" - and it had some of the best digital music I've ever heard. As you say; Unreal/UT and Deus Ex had THE best soundtracks ever!
I remember playing this game as a demo on a store-model Apple G3 Cube and it ran like shit. I was gutted because it looked absolutely phenomenal and I wanted it BAD. The G3 was ridiculously powerful and I kept thinking "If it doesn't run on THAT, what chance has my P1-200Mhz got?" --- Then I found the game in my local store and thought "Fuck it, I'll give it a try"
.... the game ran flawlessly on my P1-200 (clocked to 233Mhz) with an ATi Rage and a 3Dfx Voodoo1 I was hooked from day one and will be forever.
Hey Parallax_? Check out the "UMX Decoder" plugin for WinAMP ^_^
Yours is in .it and .s3m? The "music" folder for UT contains .UMXs
UMX was a container format used that contains S3M and IT modules in Unreal Engine at the time. Back in the days I simply opened the files in UED and saved them as their real format
I just reinstalled the original Unreal (not tournament). Played bunch of multilayer matches. I could not believe how big the server list was, not to mention that peeps are still playing it, 11 years after the release!
Played the DEMO endlessly ... and the retail even more.
Hours and hours of online shooting on my 56k connection ... till the phone bills came.
I love that game. CTF-Face ftw!
Does anyone remember the redeemer trick on CTF-Face?
(Take flag, get redeemer, go outside, blow up against the wall so it launches the flag to the other side, rez, grab flag that landed close to you and run in to cap.)
Return To Na Pali: Ultimate Edition v1.1 HD Released!
Quote:
- RTNP conversion to UT99, without the pesky bugs that have come with previous RTNP conversions.
- The original 17 RTNP levels with bug fixes, texture alignments, game play enhancements, and more. Some maps have been given the treatment they should have received when the Expansion pack first came out!
- 10 new levels, completely restored from Beta content of Unreal. This content was originally cut from the official game. It has been modified to fit right in with RTNP, including proper transitions between levels. All of it feels right at home in RTNP!
- All restored beta content has been completely revamped. This includes better lighting, enhanced game play, new stories, added RTNP content, texture alignments, technical revisions, and much more. None of it is in beta form any longer, but finalized.
- Restored music from the beta releases, which are used in the new maps and even some of the old maps.
- Implemented Oldskool features, including permanent carcasses, weapon decals, scoreboard with kill counts, and more.
- A new menu system created by Integration.
- More of a challenge when used with the 'Limbo Difficulty Mutator', which has been included with this conversion. This is recommended for veteran players who found the original RTNP to be too easy!
It looks and sounds , especially the fixed bugs and restored levels/features, thanks for the heads up Bob!
I remember encountering quite a few annoyances back in the day with that addon, it felt a bit rushed and overall it didn't receive much care.
@VGA: yup, that's correct. If you want to play the original vanilla game, only with proper resolutions and widescreen, there's the good old DX10 rendered by Kentie: http://kentie.net/article/d3d10drv/index.htm

Seeing Rune there just makes me wish again for a nice Rune 2, or even just a Rune Remaster.

These versions of Unreal Gold and Unreal Tournament work on most modern-day Windows operating systems. Oldunreal is also working on installers for Linux and macOS.
The installers will download the original Unreal Gold and UT disc images from archive.org. They will then extract the disc contents into a folder of your choice, and then install the latest public OldUnreal patch.
