The next game from French developer Dontnod has been revealed.

New RPG Vampyr in Development at Dontnod Entertainment, Set After World War One

Focus Home Interactive and Dontnod Studio have just revealed a new game called Vampyr, which will be an RPG. There’s very few details but our reporter at the reveal event, good ol’ Stefan, has stated the game is set just after World War One and players will take on the role of a doctor. He returns home while the Spanish Flu is going around, and is bitten by one of his patients. That bite transforms this doctor into a vampire.

Apparently the Y in the name relates to the choices in the game where the doctor faces moral quandaries as his doctor side tries to heal, while his vampire nature wants to kill and feed. The tag line for Vampyr is ‘Take blood. Save a life’. Choices won’t be clear cut within the game either, but there are very few details on that. Vampyr also sees Dontnod trying to start up a second development team within the studio so more projects can be worked on. Vampyr is still in early development so no release date has yet been confirmed.

vampires So Much Win

I don't think we'll ever see a masterpiece like Bloodlines. The only devs capable of providing us a similar experience are Obsidian imo. Tbh I still don't understand why game companies focus so much on the Z theme. The Vampires background is more interesting in every way you look at it.

Jekyll and Hyde I guess, some split personality thing.
(Or perhaps I misunderstood what you asked about.)

EDIT:
(Vampyr is also the Swedish word for vampire and perhaps some few other Nordic countries too.)

Tell me about it Sad Zombies are good for horror games but the background, lore, detail and all the yumminess inbetween is all vampire.

This could be seriously awesome if done right Very Happy Not only is it a vampire theme, but also set in the past and a very underused age at that. Cool, really cool.

Please don't fuck it up.

Also: obligatory Bloodlines reinstall commencing Razz

Then there's this...

The Strain.

In this they make the vampire look like a big orc and its pretty unintelligent. Luckily the main characters are complete idiots, too.

Not exactly making people want to be vampires.

Well. I'm intrigued. Cool

As for the title "VampYr" it might also be a nod to Carl Theodor Dreyer's classic film "Vampyr" (1932).

But that "Y" in the name has a nice touch to it, as there is a meaning behind it

Please be good please be good please be good!
With proper RPG mechanics and not just actioney RPG lite elements, with well written dialogues, dark and free from the cheesiness that can haunt the Vampire setting...it's definitely a mission impossible Razz

But let's hope for the best. I'm certainly not expecting another Bloodlines because it would be foolish, but at least something that resembles a proper RPG free from the popamole and cinematichurr.

I kinda liked the books written by Colin Wilson, however, I haven't watched this film.Judging by the description it's worse than books lol
