- Publisher: Arcen Games
- Developer: Arcen Games
- Genre: Adventure, Platform, Indie
- Release date: April 16th, 2012
- Story/Description:
Quote: | Description
Few survived the cataclysm where time itself shattered on the planet of Environ.
The creators of AI War bring you a 2D side-scrolling adventure filled with combat, exploration, and tricky situations awaiting your cleverness. Travel alone or with friends across an ever-expanding world filled with dangerous creatures, powerful magic, high technology, and mysteries to unravel.
Play the game your own way: stick mostly to the main missions you find on the world map, or spend the majority of your time in the boundless wilds to uncover secret missions and stashes. Customize your characters with enchants that change how you move, jump, fight, light your way, or even how you find treasure.
Features
- Play solo, or online/LAN multiplayer with 2-8+ player co-op, on PC or Mac OSX.
- Explore lush countryside, ruined towns, deep caves, strange buildings and more throughout Environ's beautiful-but-vicious continents.
- Procedural generation ensures no two worlds will ever be the same, and that there is always more awaiting you even after dozens of hours of play.
- As your world expands, each continent offers new powers to wield, treasures to discover, survivors to aid, and evils to confront.
- Learn a multitude of spells for your character, build up your settlement so that NPCs can aid you from afar, and equip enchant buffs to help you on your way.
- Face strange monsters, confront evil overlords and their lieutenants, and take on a variety of missions that call upon anything from platforming or SHMUP skills, to puzzles, to the ability to tactically improvise and carry out a plan.
- Many character paths to travel, areas to loot, and long-form strategically-oriented choices to make -- all without the typical grind.
- Difficulty levels give exactly the challenge you want, from casual to hardcore.
- New updates arriving all the time packed with additional content, improvements, and more.

This is a very nice surprise, bought it. It's a mixture between Mega Man, Castlevania(the newer DS ones), Metroid and Terraria. Looks to be many hours of fun in this and at just the right time, I expect I'm not the only one waiting for one particular game to be released right now.

i think i actually liked it, pretty fun, a bit grindy, very confusing, still have no how to craft things.
if it wasn't so unintuitive i'd probably have bought it already.

Played a couple hours and it seems like a solid game.
Would be a lot more fun in co-op, I imagine.

how do you find a settlement to craft in? i found a couple of...... houses(?) i think but i don't know if that's a settlement you can craft at or not? god this game explains everything but the very basics, i think maybe i just haven't made it enough screens to the right to find a settlement though might be the problem.

my first impressions are all good after about two hours. it feels like there is a ton of stuff i just dont 'get' yet, but i like the platforming/exploring/combat balance and the rpg elements seem solid as well (though i dont fully understand that part yet). i like games that require you to learn how they work. definitely going to spend some more time with this later.
@fuckit: the settlement was just a few screens ahead of the starting area for me. theres a few tutorial things they walk you through (combat, elemental resistance, getting a new spell, facing a boss etc), then an actual boss fight and the settlement was the very next screen. after that you get access to the big map and you are on your own.

actually the first area seems to be hand made. i deleted my first world and started over and the areas up to the settlement are all the same. once you get out of the settlement you get to the world map, which was different on my second try. the goal of the first area seems to be to find the spell crafting thing so you can make a spell that will hurt the thing blocking your path to the boss/settlement.

weird... i found the first spell, a bunch of gravestones, an abandoned building of some sort and then got lost in a bunch of caves, nothing i'd call a boss really though, unless you mean those walls underground that have to be hit with a specific spell damage type?

I think he is referring to the elemental resisting slime thingies that block the passageway. OR, the big tall armored looking thing that shoots fireballs.

i'm not even sure how to tell if i have found a settlement honestly and even assuming i did, i wouldn't know how to bring up the crafting interface at any rate, this game had potential for sure but... i don't know the graphics style comes off as a bit dated to my eye anyway and it really needs to work on explaining the basic principles, because of that, i'm probably done with it realistically.

You know you reached the settlement if you see other NPCs that look like you running around. And crafting is done at specific tables.

anyone still playing this? i forgot about it for a while, but i had a few good sessions in the last few days now that i have the world map available. i have to say that i like the pacing and the combat is staying pretty fun.
the exploring is a bit of a toss-up for me but i think i figured it out. the game generates vast amounts of virtually endless terrain. you cant explore it all, which i tend to do habitually in every game i play. after a bit of frustration i learned a new strategy that is much funner. it also took me quite a while to figure out the map(s) but once i got that things became a lot smoother as well (though it could be a bit smoother still lol). so far it still feels like it could see a lot of play time for me at least. anyone tried multiplayer yet with eye-patch edition?

I found the combat to be quite boring and the artstyle to be downright ugly.
