Hell, this is spot on. John Carmack is a great guy, he deserves this move and I hope it plays out for the best for him.

This will really help Oculus Rift development, even if its only the "name" they gain. Considering how his network is in the industry and all.

best news I got today ... I'm still blown away about the lack of interest in oculus rift from this board ... I guess you are not at al into forward pushing technology as i thought u were ...
I'm having some of the most profound experiences these days playing some older games again in the rift ...

if by lack of interest you mean 'i dont have hundreds of bucks to throw at it, therefore im not going to endlessly gush about something i dont expect to ever own', then yes... extreme lack of interest on my part.
i do, however, envy the fuck out of those who DO have one

What Sab and Chiv said.  The interest has always been there, the money in the wallet on the other hand has that strange ability to disappear at the speed of light for the most useless reasons and in the worst possible moments.
But one thing is for sure, if I will ever win the lottery, the Rift will be my very first purchase xD

Carmack works on the engine only. He will continue to do so, only now it will include sweet Oculus support. So no worries.

If you mean "lack of interest" in that "people aren't rushing out to throw money at the low-res developer kit" -- then... well.. yeah, of course. That's for developers and tinkerers, most people seem to be waiting for the commercial release.
