It's fucking unbelievable! Today I picked up my new GTX680 that the store gave me, because my old GTX680 'crashed' when it was getting stressed. So I placed the new 680 in my PC, fired up Battlefield and what do you think? The exact same shit happened...first I thought that it was my PSU, so I placed the 680 in another rig (Core2Duo E6750, P35 Mobo, 4GB RAM, 500watt PSU) and it also does the exact same thing. I place my old GTX275 (uses same power if not more) in one of the systems and it runs flawless.

So what the fuck, the store just gave me another defect GTX680. I checked serials from my old 680 and the 'new' one, and they are both different.

Was the new 680 box sealed or was it a refurb? Did you try the GTX 275 in your main system? Maybe something in your main PC killing cards?

I can't see if it's really new or refurb. The box was standard MSI, not 680 specific. And yes, the GTX275 works flawless in both systems.

Any demanding game, also stressed it with MSI Kombuster and it crashes right away. Screens go to black, PC freezes and only fans keep spinning.

Yes, I placed the 680 in a complete different system and it does the exact same thing.

But maybe the 500w power supply is not good enough either? Isn't the 680 really depending on a quality PSU?

Can't you get another replacement?

I got 550watt in my main one, 500watt in the other one, but as I said before both can run a GTX275 just fine which uses the same power, if not more. I'm gonna call them today for a new one.

680:

Thermal and Power Specs:
98 C Maximum GPU Tempurature (in C)
195 W Maximum Graphics Card Power (W)
550 W Minimum System Power Requirement (W)5
Two 6-pin Supplementary Power Connectors

275:

105 C Maximum GPU Temperature (in C)
219 W Maximum Graphics Card Power (W)
550 W Minimum System Power Requirement (W)

Even lesser power then the 275 Wink
I think they might tried to "fix" the card you had before and gave it back to you.

Blegh, the shop is giving me a hard time. I don't want to wait 4 weeks again and the only way to prevent that, is to give the the original box, including what is in, DVI to HMDI and some molex cables. Not sure of I still have those...fuckers, who keeps that shit anyway. Any more tips?

Anyone with some common sense? Sorry aeon, but it's common practice with pretty much any article that you buy to keep the box for at least the first 15 days.

You actually threw it away? Laughing

I said at least 15 days.
And why didn't you keep that crap inside the box in the first place? You don't even need it AFAIK.

What shop is it?
I usually threaten a shop that is giving me a hard time to write negative reviews on hardware.info and tweakers.net, usually they cave in by then.
I got those cables and converters here spare, quite a few actually. But you live too far from me and money to send it is out of the question for me. Sad

Alternate.
I doubt they will fall for it if I say I give them a bad review. I know I wouldn't care if a customer would say that to me.

Oooh, ask for Matthijs van der Spek Wink

I have had good convo's with him about my GFX cards. (once for my gtx260 that had issues and then for my gtx470 that overheated)
He helped me superb, donno if he still works there, but that guy is your best bet in getting stuff sorted without too much of a hassle.
