survival i mean there's a new survival sandbox every week, how could anyone keep up? many of them looks impressive, but do people like these shit games? build + fight mindless enemies, no story, no quests, no NPC's. just loot, build, kill? so boring.
Imo, Subnautica was the pinnacle of survival games. Nothing ever came close to it for me. Most of these games are trash.
"Enlightenment is man's emergence from his self-imposed nonage. Nonage is the inability to use one's own understanding without another's guidance. This nonage is self-imposed if its cause lies not in lack of understanding but in indecision and lack of courage to use one's own mind without another's guidance. Dare to know! (Sapere aude.) "Have the courage to use your own understanding," is therefore the motto of the enlightenment."
i bet you can throw together a survival game in two months if you have some experience with the engine you're working with. there's really nothing lazier than this genre.

At the rate they're churned out I'm pretty sure it's mostly plugins and edited bought assets.
holy shit people are still not tired of "hitting tree for 16hrs: the game" ??
Do people not grind enough all day at school & work they have to come home and start playing slave simulator?
Thank god for fling trainers that allow me to basically gut material gathering out of modern games otherwise I'd have quit the hobby a long time ago

That's the one thing V Rising had going for it - you could cut out 99% of the pointless fucking grind (although you still had to contend with the base building bullshit) legitimately by allowing you to adjust the multiplier sliders at the start of the game.
I also do not understand the appeal of the whole "survival" genre. When's the last time you forgot to eat or drink? If so, did you die immediately afterwards? Managing make believe wellness bars and smacking a rock for 15 hours just so you could "build" a wall is just artificial lengthening of non-gameplay. It'd be one thing if you actually had to build something, but gathering X amount of resource and left clicking to place is a lazy and bullshit mechanic.
I'd say the only thing more egregious and ridiculous is when they put that bullshit in shooters. Oh no, that Seal Team 6 member better make time mid firefight to crack open a can of beans ( I hope he brought da can opener, otherwise it's a no go!!!!) and down it, or he won't be able to sprint more than 100 meters! Get the fuck out of here with that ludicrous bullshit devs.
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

The survival genre is an odd beast indeed which more often than not produces low-effort copypasta material, but every once in a while there's something that meets my strict requirements (immersive hand-crafted world + SP-focused + interesting writing/mysterious lore) and my pickle gets tickled. Subnautica is the untouchable king in this regard, no doubt about that
Despite the obligatory dose of jank and a few questionable designs, I found both Green Hell and The Forest enjoyable, too. While they share a similar setting, their approach is different (realism-focused vs horror-oriented), and the noninvasive storytelling is surprisingly competent for the genre, providing a valid reason to keep exploring thus incentivizing the progression. Grounded sadly didn't quite do it for me despite being a fitting candidate on paper (I blame its Honey I Shrunk The Kids style which I can't take seriously), though I might give it another shot in the future.

Yep they are shit. I've played maybe 2-3 and will never buy another one again. +1 Subnautica being one of the best ones.
I think i've played like 30+ or so.
The best ones (for me atleast) so far are Conan Exiles/Enshrouded/Satisfactory.
Nightingale is nice, but ive only played it a little and im not all sure of what to do in it.
This one is so far quite fun, but it's hard as hell solo imo. I've only got 18h or so so far, but ive not really explored that much.
