Try Ubuntu instead. It's pretty good with hardware detection and compability. The link is in the OS F.A.Q. thread.
Personally I don't understand why people are choosing Fedora Core. I've only heard that It's buggy as hell. What version of Fedora Core is it btw?

I second what razor1394 says, Ubuntu is a nice snapshot of Debian Sid, aka the Debian development branch, updated every 6 months. It's based on Debian so it has a solid infrastructure, but it's ideal for a newcomer cause it has a restricted number of programs with reasonable default (the overwhelming options offered by Debian can scare a newbie =)...
The next Ubuntu version, Hoary, should be released in april, anyway you can still grab a pre-release now.

And don't remember that Ubuntu uses APT-GET. Isn't Fedora still using Red hats useless RPM system? I mean those dependencies makes you go nuts.

The livecd is for testing and repairing purpouses. You need to get the install disc for the right architecture. If you have P4 or althlon XP/AMD Duron you should use X86 if you have AMD64 get the amd disc. Yes you should get Warty unless you wan't to try the unstable Hoary release.

It all depends on how rare parts you have on your comp but if you have succeded with Fedora it shouldn't be a big problem. Don't know about video though but it isn't that hard to install the NVIDIA or ATI drivers.
edit:
Ubuntu probably installs "standard" X drivers like any other newb distro so you'll need to install the official ones manually. It isn't that hard. There are some very good howto's at the Ubuntu forum.

The Live CD is a modified version that can run directly from the CD drive without installing anything on your HD, it's usefull for testing purpose or as a recovery tool, like razor said. Never heard of Knoppix? =)
About drivers, there's an howto on the Ubutu pages on how installing binary, i.e. no open source drivers (http://www.ubuntulinux.org/wiki/BinaryDriverHowto), usually you need them if you want 3D HW rendering or if your your card is a really recent model and not yet supported by the X server.
You can go for Warty, the stable release, real soon now Hoary will be the new stable release (scheduled for april), but no fear, with the apt "magic" you can upgrade your Warty to Hoary without troubles and with zero downtime... =) As a rule of thumbs, you usually need to reboot only when you change kernel and shutdown only when you change HW =)
