It kind of annoys me, when people can't make the difference between a small hatchback that costs 10k eur as new, and the same model that costs 25k eur as new. For them both these cars cost under 5k after 5 years, and are city cars for women..
On the other end, I love watching jaws drop when that same small hatchback outperforms their big ass car with smallest engine that can be found
And he was all: "that's bullshit, that's a mini city car, it doesn't go fast and is not comfortable and can't cost as much as mine, look around only women drive that model, it costs no more than 4k"

Somehow bulgarian english and portuguese english must be compatible to each other but incompatible with the rest of europes understanding of english ...

Strange, small by definition means less space, I don't know where you got the inferior part. It used to be that small cars were made with less expensive materials in the old days, but nowadays the platform for most cars in the same mark is one and so are the materials, until you get to the premium limousine/sports car models.
Unless you tie quantity with quality, to which I disagree.
It obviously depends on the definition of inferior and superior. (So that was a lame joke on my side)
But, I'd take a middle-class A4, BMW 3 series etc. over a small car anytime.
And the platform still plays a major role. A Skoda Octavia II combi f.e. is still a compact class car (based on the Golf V platform) eventhough it has more loading space than a A4 B7. It drives and feels differently aswell.

vans and SUVs are for when you have a family, bored, and given up on life
There is alot between a compact hatchback and SUVs or vans.

yeah... boring sedans
1. What is a sedan?
edit: found it
2. What?

Well, because the Passat is a boring car doesnt mean, all the "Sedans" are boring cars.
There are alot of cars in that segment that are far from boring. VW is boring by definition though.

that's funny because I did understand perfectly what he was saying
and yes, for people who know nothing about cars (most people in most countries) if a car looks expensive it's probably better and gives more status.
Here in brazil Hyundais are considered premium cars, with tons of idiots drooling over a "sports car" like the Veloster 1.6 (with 126hp) which costs 45k USD/33k EUR (!!!).

You... did?
But yeah. Also, expensive car brands here usually go along with terrible drivers... most of the worst/disrespectful/reckless drivers I see drive BMW/Audi/Mercedes.

Rich people are 3x more likely to ignore traffic laws...
So wait, your complaining that people that don't know or care about differences in car models, cant tell the difference between car models?
Why would it matter if people that dont care if you have the 120hp or 250hp version, can't tell if you do have it?

Well, if you put it this way, I'm generally complaining of people's ignorance and stupidity, and that they mostly voice it all the time, it's just that I encounter this particular case very often, and wondered has anyone in the hump experienced it.
And it's not only that they don't understand that there is a difference in models, they can't even comprehend the price difference!
It's Ibiza, it's Fabia, it's A1, Mini Cooper, Corsa.. All of these and more cars have models that have above 100hp, some up to 180-200hp editions, that people don't believe exist, and that can cost more than a BMW 116i, and can do 0-100 in under 7sec.
Why do people not know the difference? Because they don't give a shit.
It's a car man, its purpose is to (comfortably) transport you from A to B. If you want to brag with it, you have a small penis. Who cares whether it costs 5k, 10k, 20k, 50k. Oh boy, you have a 2.0 engine rather than a 1.5. Costs you 5k extra, and when do you use it? Those 10seconds a day to brag at a stop light?
I have friends with 600euro/month loans to pay off their Audi. Kinda funny because they earn less than me, but yet pay more than my rent on a car. And bragging about the engine and the turbo and the leather and the blablabla. And then they can sell it after 10 years with 20k km on the counter . Can't drive it toooo much, maintenance service is expensive...
I am proud of my Toyota Aygo, cheap ass small car, never breaks down, driven 70k with it the last 3 years.

So, who cares? You want to pay excessive for a small car, that's your problem. Should we be woow-ed because some people overpay.?

Drive 1200 Km to Italy through the German Eiffel, Austria or Switzerland and you'll be glad you've got a more powerful engine, as it'll be more cost effective. A shitty 1.6 16v with around 115hp on a "family" car like say, a Scénic will have serious issues on a route like that, unless you either drop down to 4th when going uphill just to maintain 100-120 Km/h or you drop down in speed to 80. Meanwhile a "thirsty" "expensive" small car will happily cruise along at 120 KM/h in sixth gear, consuming less fuel. Smaller engines are good for city driving, but on longer or more taxing trips a bigger engine will leap ahead. Moreover, if you actually do know how to drive, a bigger engine doesn't consume *that* much more than a smaller one.
And in general, I just find bigger engines to be more pleasant to drive. Unless you're one of the assholes who go on the freeway and think it's okay to overtake at 100 Km/h and drive 90 on the right lane, you probably know what I mean. I set my cruise control at 120 and I expect to be able to maintain that. But unfortunately there's always retards slowing up the right lane, which means you gotta slow down until you get a chance to overtake...at which point you do want that extra power in heavy traffic. Again, try driving in Italy.
Your Aygo also has nothing on any the cars mentioned above when it comes to comfort. And that again matters on longer trips.
Please tell me how v4 1.9 is a small crappy engine and v5 2.5 is a big one.. considering the fact, that I've heard that v5's are a mechanic's nightmare when considering the belt.
And if we stick to this logic, every 5L+ engine is maintenance free forever
How long your engine lasts is 99% the driver's fault. Some do 100k, some do 1kk.
@spankie
Aygo is truly a city car. Perfect for it - economical, maneuverable and can park anywhere. But outside city limits it'd be a drag. I love the new Yaris for that matter. If it had a plug-in hybrid I'd really consider it.
