Does anyone know which tool I should use for a Backup & restore from my current HD to a brand new SSD?

I got too much work stuff on my laptop I can't lose, so I'd prefer not to have a clean install on the SSD ...

Thanks!

Except you should do a clean install on the SSD and only move the actual data afterwards, not your entire Windows installation and everything.

well tbh, I'd like my complete current HD restored, without having to reinstall software..
(laptop is 2 months old, so not much clutter on it yet, but I do have several applications I would avoid reinstalling..)

Oh it can be done. Most software just isn't capable of doing it in a sensible manner.

what a bad bad idea... for me this whole restore to new SSD thing is like buying amazing new fast piece of hardware and shitting all over it. clean install is the only way.

in the end you will waste more time with doing whole restore thing and end up with less stable system, just to not having to reinstall a couple of programs...

the system is 1.5 month old, so I reckon not much bad on there ?

the couple of programs you mention are visual studio 2005 => 2012), management studio, plugins, infragistics plugins (hard to config), TFS 2008& 2012, and the checked out sources and projects at the client I currently work..

so it's rather a lot to config.. Smile

Jesus..they picked the most retarded reasons for using an SSD. I guess it appeals to 'average users'. talking about after a few months it a lot slower??
I mean all I heard was "after owning my PC for a few months, its not as fast as it use to be..and locks up. My weatherbug, the yahoo/google/bing/mywebsearch toolbars, mcafee security center, norton network suite, and Super XP antivirus doesn't load as fast as it use to, and the 40 icons in my tray take FOREVER to finish loading"
