Ok, I have a windowsXP box(yeah, I know, I know). It's slower than molasses in Antarctica, and I would like to either reformat it or update it to WIN7 finally, but this is where I run into a problem...

My DVD drive will not run on startup no matter what I try. The DVD drive is working fine, I can explore disks, and watch movies on it fine, but it will not run on startup. I've tried hitting DEL and going into the BIOS and change startup order so dvd is first and it still wont run. I've tried the winXP setup disc, and WIN7 disc. I can't get it to run floppys either on startup(usually I'd just run the winxp 6-floppy disc and reformat but I can't...)

HEELLLPPPP!!!! how do I fix this? I can't format, or upgrade and its driving me nuts!

unplug all the HDD's, set DVD as first boot device, and boot. see if it will boot from it then.

If not even then..something in your BIOS or the disk itself is fubar'd ID say..
And i THINK you can start a windows install from windows with the disk. Just start it from my computer. Windows 7 I know you can, I haven't touched XP is so long, I cant remember...but I seem to be leaning towards I remember you could.
It will start up, copy the files it needs to do the install and reboot and finish.
