The Bureau: XCOM Declassified (2013)

Description:

What you think you know about the enemy is about to change. An insidious and faceless enemy is clawing its way into America, tearing at the fabric of the American dream. This is not an invasion that anyone could have expected or prepared for. There is no army, no front - only a nation being picked apart from within, one family at a time.

Join humanity's struggle against an unknown enemy and step into the shoes of William Carter, an FBI agent tasked with identifying this mysterious growing threat and eliminating it at any cost. True to the roots of the franchise, players will be placed in charge of building a campaign of risky strategic gambits to overcome high-stake odds. Told from a first-person perspective, they will enact their plans through heart-stopping combat experiences that pit human ingenuity - and frailty - against a foe beyond comprehension. Players will feel the white-knuckle tension and fear that comes with confronting an elusive and deadly enemy across battle lines drawn through the homes and lives of the innocent.

Features:

* Experience XCOM from an Immersive New Perspective: Step into the shoes of FBI agent William Carter and confront firsthand the horror, tension and fear of the unknown.

* Call the Shots and Bear the Consequences: The enemy threat is far-reaching and indiscriminate. As the man in charge, you will be tasked with deciding where and when to respond to the disturbances across the United States, and how best to use the limited resources at your disposal. Your choices and efforts have a direct involvement in the creation of new tools and technology that will aid in your battle to save mankind. But make a bad decision, and the consequences will be felt most by those you have failed.

* Struggle Against a Faceless Enemy: Knowledge is power. Confront the enemy in the field, and conduct research and investigation to learn more about them. Command your science and engineering teams to build tools to exploit their weaknesses as you struggle to gain the upper hand against the growing threat.

* No Two Experiences Are the Same: The player-driven, yet narrative-rich campaign progresses according to your choices and performance, while dynamic, unscripted conditions and emergent combat systems ensure that no two field operations play out the same way.

Trailer:

Quote:
Long in development, twice reworked, The Bureau: XCOM Declassified, now a third-person tactical shooter, hits this summer, publisher 2K Games announced this morning.

The Bureau hits North America on Aug. 20 and the rest of the world three days late and will sell for $59.99. The title, in development by 2K Marin for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360, will tell the origin story of the XCOM organization. Set in 1962 at the height of the Cold War, the game traces how The Bureau, an organization created to deal with the Soviet Union threat, metamorphosed into a group designed to handle an alien threat. Players will take on the role of special agent William Carter at The Bureau who both fights to thwart an alien invasion and cover up the existence of extraterrestrials.

Unlike previous XCOM games, The Bureau will have players taking on the aliens in a real-time third-person shooter, rather than in an isometric turn-based tactical game. But Morgan Gray, creative director at 2K Marin told polygon that the game won't be a typical run-and-gun shooter.

"What we're attempting to do is a third-person squad-based tactical shooter," Gray said. "Putting you right there in the field. No more sitting back, watching everything unfold from a god's eye view."

Gray said the game's action strives to be somewhere between the methodical pacing of a military shooter like Full Spectrum Warrior and the faster paced action of a game like Rainbow Six.

Was really interested in this one, even though a lot of people lashed at it for using the xcom license in a "modern" way.

Glad to see it didn't get canned.

Yeah. After seeing that GB Dev-Quick Look, it looked "meh" as hell and by the sound of it, they made a 3rd pers XCOM-EU.

I honestly dont know what to think... Could be a surprise hit. But live trailer ad campaigns are usually a bad sign.

Look exactly like [insert generic shooter here]. I don't understand why they would make crap like this. Make something new and fresh. This feels like I played it over 100 times already.

You're not supposed to shoot but use your squad, give orders etc no? Strategy and shit.

Today I didn't even need to use my AK. I gotta say it was a good day. (c) - Ice Cube

Exactly, the design was radically changed about 2 years ago, the gameplay is much more reminiscent of XCom Unknown.

it seems like an fps version of last year´s x-com, the gameplay is similiar in the way you go from cover to cover with your whole squad, use their special abilities and flank enemies, level the teammates, permadeath.
i dont see how this makes it a generic shooter...
