As the captain of a Mandate starship, you lead a crew through the galaxy where they will adapt and grow as they fight alongside you.

You’ll explore your vessel isometrically, discovering the inner workings and day to day life of the officers and crew who serve under you. Invite dignitaries to your chamber, or defend your vessel from attack on foot (in the style of Jagged Alliance, X Com.)

As you lead your men to victory, yourself and officers who survive will have access to upgrades and talents, affecting gameplay and offering new tactical opportunities. Make the wrong decision, and expect to lose your officer for good with our rogue-like chain of command.

Oh god! YesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYesYes!!! They've got nearly $100k so far.. a fifth of the way through. Please succeed! Now THIS sounds fantastic, it sounds like a visual overhaul to what Star Command promised it was going to be, before it turned out to just be a shallow clickfest Sad

There are a lot of sci-fi RPGs out there, but we feel there’s something lacking. Being huge fans of the sci-fi genre, we wondered why spaceships feel so empty? What’s missing? Looking back to all the TV and Movies that inspired us, like Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica or Firefly, we realised games are missing something integral: a crew. A ship without a crew feels hollow and meaningless, so we’ve taken space travel to the next level. The dangers of space should not only test your metal, but your flesh.

We wanted to make a game where you’re not a solid, singular object in a sky-box; you are a captain in an evolving, dynamic ship that hundreds of people call home. They adapt to you, and grow with you as you fight alongside them, and if you suffer losses, you’ll feel the loss that comes with that.

That’s where the drama is, that’s where the story happens, and it’s the interacting with people on the deck that makes this a complete experience.

One final point to make, if you inspect our reward tiers you will see that we do not have any physical rewards. This means we do not divert Kickstarter funds to produce physical goods and instead we can use the funds to fully realize the actual game. To compensate for this we are providing what we believe are fair reward tiers where backers even at lower tiers get to put their mark on the game. Higher tier rewards are bundled with additional copies of the game so backers can split the cost among friends.

Still, we understand that some backers would prefer physical copies and merchandise and here is a promise:

Once our funding goals are reached, we will add physical reward tiers and outsource the production and shipping to our backers who will pay for only production and shipping. If people want t-shirts made we will supply the graphics to make your own t-shirts or other merchandise. We will not make a dime off of you ordering that set of China with the Empress Anastasia on it that you always wanted. We are game developers -not Manchester United!

So. Damned. Good. Too many KS have made the huge mistake of offering a large amount of physical rewards and losing an enormous chunk of development money trying to fulfil them.

honestly, this sounds too good to be true. That coupled with it being a kickstarter means I'm pretty wary of it. I hope they pull it off though. And for fuck sake, don't make it a goddamn pixel game. heh

They showed like 5 seconds of space battles and it will have normal graphics.
But yeah I agree they promise much but will they deliver? That's just completely other story.
I usually support kickstarter projects if I heard about them before (at least some time before kickstarter), have seen some alpha gameplay or played the alpha build. I know then that they really have done some work already and not just speed painted a few conceptarts and rendered a 10 seconds of something that is suppose to be a gameplay.

And 500K is not that much for such ambitious project. Especially after all the fees and taxes.

But I would like to play such game, I'm a whore for space games with crew management.

Btw why all 4 factions are such faggots? Why the player can't start as a pirate or freelancer? I just played the demo or whatever its called, and I didn't liked any of the factions. They are gross.

launching the interactive ship builder destroyed my system. (100% proc), took 2 minutes to get task manager up.
after 10 minutes i finally manage to kill that chrome process.
in ie worked fine.

anyway, nice concept.

This will follow Ambrov X in the non-funded area. In 14 days they've raised only almost 100k. It would take a miracle to see this fully funded. Sorry to rain on people's parade, as i was watching this kickstarter since it started and so far it looks like it's not gonna make it to the finish line.

Kickstarter for this started on 3 October, was covered favorably by a few sites ( rock paper shotgun, vg247, dsogaming ) and yet in 2 weeks they've managed to raise only 100k. Sad

well it´s from the same guy that made Firefly, that got my hopes up... crap Sad

On topic, the trailer totally blew it. Mock-up shoots of the gameplay like the x-comlike battles, would be much better. Half a million seems low for the scope of the game, and the presentation makes me wary of their capacity to deliver.

I'm getting FTL and Star Command vibes, mixed with some XCOM combat. Have you tried the interactive demos? I particularly like the character creation thing, it has a nice appeal to it, though I do think the project seems overly ambitious.. but goddamn it, I want it!

Aye, it looks really interesting to me too Smile Even if I had the cash I wouldn't back it though, I'm done throwing money at developers only for them to treat me like a second-class citizen because I didn't pay over the odds ... and I am *really* sick of the constant delays by over-eager, under-staffed, development houses that simply cannot meet their incredibly unrealistic "estimates" that end up overshooting for 6-8 months or more because REASONS®

If/when I ever do get money, it will go on games that are finished and out (or at least have concrete release dates soon)
