Hi All,
Anyone got any hints or help? The site has adverts, its listed on lots of search engines but I dont really want to pay money to advertise the site on other sites if possible.

twitter / facebook / youtube ... through social media ( these are the best way to get people on your site ) , promote it. and you need to invest time to promote it yourself , if you don't want to give money to others to do it for you 
other than that i don't know.
it depends also on what the site is about, what it offers.
Yeah, well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Like Hiz said social signals. and SEO, lots of SEO. get it ranked to top 5 results for the main keywords/phrases. Google for some guides, can do alot of it yourself but ofcourse it wont compare to any paid services. But even a SEnuke fiverr gig can get you a long way to get ranked.

Other than that: social media. Hate to say it but that is where people spend most of their time.
Also spamdexing, search engine manipulation and black hat SEO.  |

You can get high in the ranking, but if people dont stay, no add revenue. I have 1 site with ~50 visitors or so per day. But average they stay ~30mins and 10 pages or so. Revenue per 1000 visitors is ~20 $... compared to another site where i have 1000 bumpers per day and revenue per 1000 is 1$...
