Why does everyone use a mask of the guy for the day dedicated to him? its just a mask from a 1980's comic of a guy with nothing to do with Fawkes (other than he wears a mask of him) Confused

Nov 5th:
A day of silence to morn the day anon toke a revolutionary, and making him popular because of a vague 2nd hand reference of him with a mask in a comic, into a 3rd hand parody meme for their causes Laughing
It would be like posting pics of the scene in point break, with the robbers in presidential masks, going "Happy Presidents day!"

I willing to bet most of the Fawkes-thing lovers don't even know what that guy really did.

What are you talking about? V for Vendetta didnt invent the Guy Fawkes mask.

It was where the one they use comes from. Its forever linked as the character V. Its even trademarked by Warner Bros when they bought the rights to the comic.
I always thought it ironic the people that one of their things is fighting the Movie and Music lobby about copyright and piracy restrictions, give money to those very people to buy the masks they wear on youtube videos complaining about it Razz

So they aren't really saying 'remember guy fawkes' they are saying 'Remember Mr.V'. It was designed by the comic artist for the book.
I was just saying if people really wanted to remember him, they would remember him, not the caricature mask made popular out of a book about a guy that's not him, just wearing a mask of him.

It's a stylish design of a mask that's been tarnished over the internet.

Shame really. So here's a picture of a potato.

I know but the tradition of wearing a Guy Fawkes mask goes back to before the comics.

Not saying it didn't. But purely the mask as a symbol, as apposed to a full effigy as it should be, is popular now because of anon adopting a comic book characters persona, and the symbolism of THAT mask. not the man.
I can bet $500 that if someone made the scarecrow effigy in full with a traditional mask and said "never forget"..people would go "WTF is that?".. "its guy fawkes".."no its not, that's not the mask anon uses."
So its not a tribute to him anymore, its a tribute to the coolness/meme trend of the mask, of conforming to the counter culture standards of 'not conforming'.

Im not dismissing the importance of the day in Britain at one time. But "Guy Fawkes Day" has lost its meaning, its more like Caturday as a date, than an actual celebration of what the guy did.
