Going crazy. I got nothing to do all day. And if I have to wait till summer to start working I'll kill someone.

40 000 unemployed in the city, and only around 300 job openings at any given time.

I've applied to every single job posting that's popped up in the last 3 months and nothing.
Can't even get a waiters job. Hell, I'd take a janitors job in a second if it was available.

Feels like I'm running on a fucking treadmill. No matter how fast I try to run, I'm still not getting anywhere.

I feel ya Sad My one year IT tech contract went out in August. Got some good refs, and it always works out in the end. But atm its hard to just watch money fly out of my bank account. Living in Norway with no income is exactly as bad as it sounds :/ I was good at getting interviews earlier, guess im just unlucky now. And it doesn't help that there are 50-70 people applying for the jobs either.

On paper its no problem... only 4% unemployment in Norway... supposedly.

Find something that you like through which you can make money out of it, on your PC or not.
There are tutorials all over the web for free.
Or leave your city and go somewhere you'll like and find something there.
It really is just up to you, if you find the motivation and ambition for something you can do anything.

Get out of this shit hole of a country. If I didn't have a bf here, the moment after graduation I'd start looking for a job anywhere but here.

But now I'm giving 4 months to this retarded thing of a country. If in 4 months I won't be able to find a job I'll start looking for one outside. I don't care what kind of a job, just something...

Adjust to the modern era! Be experienced (how? where?), be flexible ("be available whenever the fuck we want"), be social ("kiss my/our ass"), be glad you have a job if you get one ("thank us biatch"), be ambitious (aka do more for the same salary), always look for new opportunities ("fuck off when we don't need you anymore").

When/if you qualify for these simple requirements, you'll find a job in no time.

I've been unemployed for many years now, and to be honest I just fucking gave up. Like you I'm not in a AAA country so slave labor and unpaid internships are the most common ways people get "productive" around where I live and the pay is shit if you don't have money for top of the line university and the right contacts to hustle a job. Hell a lot of people even pay BRIBES to get a job.

Wanna know what I did? A system that doesn't pay off doesn't get paid. So I decided to fuck it and start my own off the grid business that no government or company is getting a dime of. It pays for a roof and internets and a shit ton of hash so life could be a lot worse.
Also there is absolutely no form of unemployment pay or benefits where I live.

I feel you mate..you know that I'd instantly adopt you in my mansio..err attic, but sadly if it can reassure you, life is very tough here too. Not to mention the perspectives of finding a job, it's like looking for a needle in a haystack if you don't know *the right people*..and I obviously don't.
None of my close friends (all engies like me) managed to find a job fully pertinent to their studies, some are actually unemployed or had to adapt and work in a bar, underpaid and almost enslaved.

Even having a degree/high qualifications doesn't mean anything nowadays, I have one and yet couldn't find a serious contract that lasted more than 6 months (underpaid of course, that goes without saying)..so I had to go back to helping my father. It's ok to survive, but it's not enough :<
I wish you good luck, hoping that this situation can finally turn around. It can't rain all the time! Razz

what i did was let people bitch me around. I did free internship at first, then I've met an australian who told me he had a job for me and made me work for free, and then I've met another people who told me they'd give me money and made me do a "test project" for like a month or something. Yeah, I was furious but what I didn't notice is that that really gave me a lot of experience: how to work with repositories, how to work with ui, how to learn different languages/apis.

And then I've applied for a normal stationary job as a programmer, passed the interview and I've got the job. No rush, nice pay and everything. And I haven't even finished my degree yet, it's my third year.

so yeah, people are getting furious when they hear they're supposed to work for free. But when the hr gets tons of cv's it's the experience they're looking at, not if you like horseback riding.

But It was easy for me to "work" for free because I was/am a student so I didn't really need money. A lot of my friends at uni started this way, and now work at prestigious firms.

edit;
but if you can't even get a janitor's job it means it's really something wrong in the city. People complain there are no jobs in poland, but even here it's pretty easy to find ANY job.

The problem is that even for janitorial work, the competition is huge. There wasn't a single job interview I went to, that didn't have at least 30 people waiting in line.

And working for free is not really an option. Since not that many companies here will even hire someone to work for free.
Insane, I know.

Couple of years ago I was working as a project leader in Denmarks biggest internet firm with very good benefits etc. Got the sack.

Didnt know what I wanted to do then, but was sure I wanted to do something else entirely after 15 years using my market economist education.

Now I work with disabled people in a home where I watch over them at night.
The pay is not the same, but still quite good. The shifts are 9 hours of work, 6 of them are spent however I wish more or less and working with people and taking care of them, outweighs a whole lot of the nice things about my earlier career.

So my advice is search wider than you would think.

There are two kinds of people I can't stand in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's cultures, and the Dutch.

Two months ago I applied to Dubai Air for a cabin crew position.
I applied for a butcher job oppening, various administrator jobs, teacher assistant, construction worker, waiter, cook, asistant cook and Santa Clause.

That wide enough?
