About the game

Volgarr the Viking is a 2D side-scrolling arcade action game that has all the hallmarks of the true classics - simple controls, high challenge, and meticulous design. Featuring hand-made pixel art and thousands of frames of animation by a professional pixel artist, an epic soundtrack on par with modern AAA titles, and some fantastic game mechanics both old and new, this is the hardcore arcade action game you've been waiting for.

We plan to include a wide variety of enemies and obstacles to overcome, several unique environments to conquer, and insane boss fights to really test your skills. Volgarr is up to the task with multiple powerful abilities for you to master - but not to the point where you can just blow through everything by mashing the attack button! Each of his abilities and special gear power-ups has been carefully tuned to be important and useful, and mastering them all is essential to overcoming everything the game can throw at you.

Fortunately, like all the best arcade games, the controls are simple (and fully customizable, including support for all DirectInput and XInput controllers in addition to the keyboard). Its just a matter learning where, when, and how to best use the actions at your disposal... and having the skill to do so.

Volgarr will be released as a Windows PC game initially, hopefully on Steam. If all goes well, once completed we hope to port the game to other platforms such as the Ouya (we supported Ouya on the developer level) and anywhere there is enough interest. This project funding is purely for the PC version, however.

Valve dumped some coupons on me earlier, including a -25% off voucher for this. If somebody wants it, PM me, otherwise it's going to the trash bot.

Once you quit you lose all your progress so be aware.

There is a difference between "hard' difficultly and "punishing" difficulty , though:

Game itself is short, but it gathers artificial length by making you restart whole level if you died. No checkpoints on bosses as well, just like in classic NES performers.

Thanks to your advice I finally installed it and played for ~1 hour earlier this morning. It was simply one of the most brutal and infuriating experiences ever (and I mean, really..I wanted to punch my monitor Laughing), but damned rewarding at the same time.

I decided to play with the 360 pad and the first 10 minutes were like pure hell for me, then I got enough confidence to clear the first two mini-areas until the rape-party started again. I'm impressed. Very Happy

Nope, game does not save anything at all. It creates c:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\Crazy Viking Studios\ but that is. nothing being written there. I even tried to collect some data with FileMon/DiskMon but there was nothing as well. Walking back on the start screen just skip the tutorial.

You can't walk back. After you skip the tutorial, there is concrete wall behind you at lvl1.

... dude, i am on world 5. and every time i start the game I WALK BACK 5 TIMES TO REACH WORLD 5.

If there is a concrete wall, that means you didn't beat the first world. Each world has 2 levels. shortcut only works for level 1 of each world.

Is it clear now

So, how much bosses first world has? I reached the Bird Boss on flying ships, then I had to quit.

UPD: Does not matter, I did another full run and finished it at once. There is a hint how to open secret dungeon, but it is ominous.
